The fathom stone is a boat facility used to locate shoals whilst deep sea trawling. It can be built at specific facility hotspots on the boat, requiring level 70 Sailing and 62 Construction, granting 1,652 Construction experience.

The "Locate-shoal" option will open a menu prompting the player to choose a desired shoal to locate. Choosing a shoal will inform the player which cardinal direction the shoal is found; if a chosen shoal is not nearby, it will inform the player that there are no shoals of that type within range of the fathom stone. This option will interrupt player actions, as doing so requires them to be in front of it.

Meanwhile, the "Quick-locate" option will do the same to the last shoal chosen in the menu, or the closest shoal within range if they did not do so. This option will not interrupt player actions, nor require the player to be next to it.

While temporary boosts can be used to build the facility, players must maintain the Sailing boost whenever they wish to make use of it.
