Yellowfin shoals are a type of fish shoal found out at sea. They can be fished for raw yellowfin via deep sea trawling, requiring level 79 Fishing and granting 155.5 experience per successful catch with a trawling net, or 31.1 if caught with a fishing rod.

Unlike coastal fishing spots, players must use a boat to reach fish shoals and operate a trawling net within range of it, whilst matching the depth the shoal is currently swimming in. Yellowfin shoals swim at shallow and moderate depths, and as such must be caught with a linen trawling net or greater to consistently catch them.

While the shoal is moving to the next stop, they will always be at moderate depths. Upon stopping, they will swim up to shallow depths, before swimming back down to moderate depths once the timer reaches the halfway point.

Operating a trawling net is always preferred over rod fishing, as the latter requires the use of one fish offcut or fine fish offcut per fish, while the former uses it as optional bait to grant a 20% chance of catching an extra fish during a stop.

Regardless of the route chosen, Yellowfin shoals always stop for 100 ticks (60s) at specific points along their path.

Catch chance

A roll for a successful catch is performed every 3 ticks (1.8s), indicated by the small amount of Sailing experience granted whenever this occurs. This can be increased to every 2 ticks (1.2s) by clicking the trawling net every tick. For crewmates, a roll is performed every 5 ticks (3s), giving a flat 4% chance of a successful catch.

If rod fishing, a roll is performed every 5 ticks (3s) - the same as regular fishing.
