Sarachnis/Strategies

Sarachnis is a mid-level boss located in the Forthos Dungeon. She is often killed for her Sarachnis cudgel, pristine spider silk, and elite clue scroll drops.

Players can create an instanced version of Sarachnis' arena for 25,000 coins via the thick web opening to her lair, which lasts until the player leaves or logs out.

Transportation

The three easiest ways to reach the Forthos Dungeon include:

Mechanics

A player fights Sarachnis, the mother of the temple spiders.

Sarachnis has several attacks that she will occasionally use other than the standard melee and ranged attacks. Her melee attacks consist of smashing the player with her legs, while she launches barbed projectiles as her ranged attack.

  • Healing strike - Sarachnis' standard attacks will heal her on successful hits, indicated by a magenta hitsplat. She heals 5 health for every successful melee attack, and 10 health for every successful ranged attack, regardless of how much damage she actually deals, including zeros.
  • Sticky web - Every four standard attacks, Sarachnis will screech out Hsss! and shoot out a sticky web that leaves players bound for 6 ticks (3.6 seconds), then moving a short distance away from where she was before attacking the player. This attack can be completely negated by wearing aranea boots.
  • Spawns - When Sarachnis reaches 66% and 33% health, she summons two Spawn of Sarachnis per player; a level 68 that uses Magic and has a maximum hit of 11, and a level 107 that uses Melee and has a maximum hit of 13. Both have 30 health.

Suggested skills

  • Hitpoints 65+
  • Strength 65+
  • Attack 65+ (required to equip weapons like Sarachnis cudgel)
  • Defence 65+ (to be able to tank some damage from minions)
  • Magic 60+ (for magic defence against mage minion)
  • Ranged 70+ (for magic defence armour)
  • Prayer 43+ (for protection prayers, 70 recommended for Piety)

Strategy

Sarachnis is weak to crush weapons, and has high magic and ranged defence. Therefore, it is recommended to bring high strength bonus equipment and a crush weapon that can attack fast (such as an abyssal bludgeon).

Sarachnis attacks with melee when players are next to her, and Ranged when she cannot reach them; it is advised to pray Protect from Melee or Protect from Missiles accordingly, as these attacks can hit up to 31 if they aren't protected against, and also heal her if they do manage to hit. Her melee range is deceptively large, so players are advised to exercise caution when standing near her.

Additionally, lower-levelled players may wish to kill the blue magic-using Spawn of Sarachnis. The melee spawns may be tanked with sufficiently high defensive bonuses, but are not necessary to kill as the player should be praying Protect from Melee outside her web attack.

Players fighting Sarachnis can avoid getting snared by her web attack by wearing aranea boots throughout the fight. This allows the player to attack more frequently and avoid taking ranged attacks at all, avoiding prayer switches entirely. If these strategies are not able to be used, eating food only while bound by her web is recommended to maximise damage dealt.

All tiles directly adjacent to walls are out of Sarachnis's melee range. Standing on one of these tiles and praying Protect from Missiles will nullify all of her damage, but not the damage of her spawn.

When Sarachnis is killed, any remaining spawns will automatically die off with her. She will respawn in 17 ticks (10.2s).

Equipment

As Sarachnis is weak to crush and has high magic and ranged defence, melee crush is the most viable method of killing her. Magic defence is prioritised due to two magic-using spawns that will appear during the fight. Aranea boots allow the player to avoid Sarachnis' web attack, but their cost may be prohibitive for lower level players. Without their use, it is beneficial to be prepared to swap to Protect from Missiles during the fight when outside of her melee range.

Note: Players using Aranea boots do not need to bring a slash weapon for webs

As Sarachnis is weak to crush and has high magic and ranged defence, melee crush is the most viable method of killing her. Magic defence is prioritised due to two magic-using spawns that will appear during the fight. It is highly recommended to bring aranea boots, as their unique mechanic will always free the player from Sarachnis' web attack, speeding up and simplifying the fight and negating the need to change prayer.

Tumeken's shadow's high accuracy and damage make it uniquely effective against Sarachnis when used with high-level magic equipment, although poor special attack weapons and lower melee defence lead to melee setups generally performing better overall. While using Protect from Missiles and standing by the empty sarcophagus at the eastern side of the lair, the player will occasionally be out of the melee spawns' aggression range and outside of Sarachnis' melee range, and able to reach Sarachnis no matter where she is, negating the need for aranea boots.
