The Corporeal Beast is a high level boss monster in Old School RuneScape.
Requirements
There are no strict requirements to killing the Corporeal Beast.
Recommendations
- High combat stats. Although not required, see the skill levels below for an indication of the advised stats:
Transportation
The Corporeal Beast can be found in a cave at level 19-20 Wilderness, which is surrounded by hostile ents and black unicorns. As the area is frequently visited by PKers, entering through the Wilderness is not recommended. Instead, use a games necklace and teleport to the Corporeal Beast. The cave in which the Corporeal Beast resides is not part of the Wilderness.
Mechanics
Attack styles
The Corporeal Beast attacks with Melee and Magic. It attacks normally every 4 ticks, but it can occasionally attack 3 ticks after its last. When its targeted player is in melee range, it will use a melee attack 40% of the time, while all magic attacks are used with a 20% chance. When outside of melee range, all magic attacks occur with a 33% chance and the melee attack is unused.
Protect from Melee will block all damage from the melee attack and Protect from Magic will block 1/3 of the damage from the magic attacks. Despite this, it is recommended to always use Protect from Magic due to the magic attacks' higher damage, accuracy and frequency.
- The Melee attack is only used when the player is standing in Melee distance and can hit up to 33.
- The Magic attack has three variations. See the images below on how to identify the different variations.
- A regular Magic attack that can deal up to 65 damage.
- A Magic attack that can deal up to 55 damage and has a chance to drain Magic or Prayer by 1 or 2. The stat drain effect only takes place upon a successful hit. The boss is healed by half of the damage dealt, rounded down.
- A Magic attack targeted at the player's location that splits into six smaller projectiles that land randomly in a 7x7 area. Both projectile themselves have an AoE of 3x3. The main attack can hit up to 40 if landing directly or up to 30 if landing adjacently. Each smaller projectile can hit up to 30 if landing directly, or up to 20 if landing adjacently. All projectiles can be dodged by moving at least 5 tiles away from the original targeted tile.
If the player steps under the Corporeal Beast, it may perform a stomp attack that will always deal 30–51 damage. This attack is on a timer that checks if any players are under the Corporeal Beast every 7 ticks (4.2 seconds). This attack cannot be negated with protection prayers.

Dark energy core
The Corporeal Beast can occasionally send out a dark energy core. It has a 1/8 chance of spawning whenever the Corporeal Beast is hit for at least 32 damage, or when it attacks while its hitpoints are under 1,000. [1] Whenever the dark energy core is summoned, the Corporeal Beast's attack timer is reset to 4 ticks.
The dark energy core leeches hitpoints from any players adjacent to it (in a 3x3 area) to heal the Corporeal Beast. It can deal 5–13 damage every 2 ticks (1.2 seconds). The dark energy core will jump to players if none are adjacent.
It can be weakened significantly by poisoning it. Once it has been poisoned, its attacks will be extremely slow. However, there must be at least one player around the dark energy core or else it will start hopping around again and will attack normally. If the dark energy core was stunned but someone moved away from it and it starts hopping around again, it cannot be stunned again. It will keep dealing damage rapidly until it is killed. If the Corporeal Beast dies, the dark energy core will disappear.
The dark energy core will usually follow the player that stands northernmost. If no players are on the northern side, it will focus on the person that stands on the eastern side of the Corporeal Beast. It is usually advisable for the person who tanks or runs the core to stand north or east of the Corporeal Beast. Players that have experience with the Corporeal Beast typically know that there are specific game tiles that cause the core to prioritise and follow a player.
Damage reduction
The Corporeal Beast has a 50% damage reduction against any melee and ranged weapon that is not a Corpbane weapon. These weapons must also be on the stab attack style. This damage reduction does not apply to magic, recoil damage (such as Vengeance or rings of recoil), Retribution. The damage reduction applies to the special effect of enchanted ruby bolts, before the cap of 100 damage is calculated.
There is also currently a bug that causes attacks from the dwarf multicannon to be reduced by 50% damage twice.
Stat regeneration
By default, the Corporeal Beast regenerates each drained stat once every 20 ticks (12 seconds), regardless of if there are players in the room. If there are no players in the cave, it will heal 75 hitpoints every 7 game ticks (4.2 seconds), and heals an additional 10 hitpoints cumulatively every 7 ticks thereafter. This timer is shared with the Corporeal Beast's stomp attack timer. It will fully heal after three minutes if no one has attacked it.
If there are eight or more players in the room simultaneously, it will regenerate an additional 5 Hitpoints per player every 7 ticks (4.2 seconds). This also coincides with the stomp attack timer.[2]
Ironmen room
Ironmen with a combat level of 90 or higher have a separated Corporeal Beast room. All other accounts use the normal room. This is to reduce griefing.
In addition, other players cannot assist in the encounter in any way: should someone damage or be attacked by the boss after the fight has been started by another player, kill credit will be invalidated for all players. This is to prevent players using other accounts to use stat-draining special attacks to speed up the kill. If someone has started the fight, a brazier in the lobby is lit with a blue flame.
Tips
Dark energy core
To deal with the dark energy core, a number of strategies can be used:
- Use a crossbow that can fire emerald bolts (e); if the special goes off, it will reduce the speed at which the dark energy core can sap players' hitpoints and prayer points. This requires a person to stay near it though, as failure to do so will result in the core bouncing around and the bolts' effects being removed.
- Move at least two tiles away whenever it jumps towards the player.
- Attack it as soon as it lands and immediately move away from it so it jumps; if it dies while midair, it will not respawn (this can be confirmed by its lack of ashes dropped). A dwarf multicannon can also be used to attack it midair, but this requires more timing as well as steel cannonballs.
Stat draining
While weak to stab attacks, the Corporeal Beast has a very high Defence level. A common method to lower its Defence is to use the Elder maul, arclight and Bandos godsword's special attack at the start of the fight.
- The Elder maul's special attack will lower the target's current Defence level by 35% on a hit.
- The Arclight's special attack will lower the opponent's Strength, Attack, and Defence levels by 5%+1 on a successful hit.
- The Bandos godsword's special attack will lower the opponent's combat levels equivalent to the damage hit in the following order: Defence, Strength, Prayer, Attack, Magic, Ranged.
The Elder maul's special attack is very useful in significantly increasing the player's damage output while fighting the Corporeal Beast.
The other special attacks are especially useful to players soloing the Corporeal Beast, as this will increase the player's damage output significantly while almost nullifying the Corporeal Beast's damage output. To achieve this, the special attacks have to be used in the following order:
- 3 successful Elder maul special attacks. Although not required, this step is highly recommended to increase the accuracy of the arclight's special attacks.
- 19 successful arclight special attacks. These attacks will completely drain the Corporeal Beast's Strength, Attack and Defence levels.
- A total damage of 200 with the Bandos godsword's special attack. These attacks will completely drain the Corporeal Beast's Magic level to almost completely negate its magical accuracy (although its maximum hit will be unaffected) and drastically reduce its overall damage output.
- The special attack's stat reduction effect is calculated before the Corporeal Beast's 50% damage reduction, meaning 175 damage is enough to drain its 350 Magic levels. The remaining 25 damage is done to nullify the passive stat regeneration during the process.
It is recommended to bring item switches for gear that boost crush accuracy while using the Elder maul's special attacks, such as the tyrannical ring (i), mythical cape and dwarven helmet.
For teams, it is often recommended to only reduce the Corporeal Beast's Defence level before proceeding to killing it, as it takes more time than it is worth to further reduce its stats in bigger groups.
Player-owned house
As most Corporeal Beast strategies heavily rely on using special attacks in quick succession, it is highly recommended to have a restoration pool or better in the player-owned house. Alternatively, players can pray at the Elidinis Statuette in Nardah after completion of Spirits of the Elid quest. Both methods will restore the player's special attack energy.
To return to the Corporeal Beast quickly, it is highly recommended to have a basic jewellery box or better in the player-owned house. Alternatively, bring enough games necklaces in the inventory.
If no special attacks hit, players may typically restore their special attack through a restoration pool (or higher) and teleport back.
Instance
Players can pay 200,000 coins to host an instance. Players ranked as Captain or above in a clan chat can pay the instance cost for their clan. Once the instance is opened, anyone from the clan chat will be able to enter the instance for no cost. As long as there is one player present in the instance, it will remain open.
Note that ironmen cannot enter this instance.
Solo and duo strategy
Stat draining
For solo players (or small teams with low stats), killing the Corporeal Beast without massively reducing its stats can prove difficult as they may run out of food before killing it. Therefore, it may be more beneficial to drain its combat stats to zero by using their player-owned house to restore special attacks and teleport back repeatedly. An effective strategy is to:
- hit 3 Elder maul special attacks to lower its Defence to approximately a third, then
- hitting 19 Emberlight special attacks to reduce its melee stats, and then
- deal a total of 200 damage with Bandos godsword special attacks to reduce its Magic to 0.
Following this, the Corporeal Beast can be killed with relative ease and little food required. As a downside, the process is very slow; including the time to reduce its stats, solo players will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes per kill. However, it is the only realistic option for ultimate and hardcore ironmen to kill the boss.
Quick-pool
Reset (meaning teleport to a restore pool then tele back) until you land 1 Elder maul or Dragon warhammer spec. Then stop resetting, but continue attempting maul/hammer specs until you've landed 2-3 total or Corp reaches ~1700 HP, at which point use Voidwaker instead. Reset whenever your HP reaches Corp's max hit of 43. This method is significantly higher kills per hour than fully reducing Corp's stats, but is not recommended without high end gear & stats. Osmumten's Fang, Voidwaker and an Elder Maul or Dragon Warhammer are particularly essential.
- Swap to maximum crush attack bonus gear when using Elder maul or DWH specs
- Swap to strength boosting gear when using Voidwaker specs (Amulet of rancour and Ultor ring or Berserker ring (i))
- Food is not needed, and teleporting to a bank during kills to restock on food will slow down kills compared to only teleporting to a restore pool
- Use Spellbook Swap to maintain Vengeance and Thralls constantly
- If you spellbook swap after red clicking Corp upon entering the arena, you can use the spell while running to avoid tick delay
- Mage defence (and to a lesser extent Crush defence) is beneficial
Death piling
An alternative strategy is only lowering its Defence and dying in the boss room with an inventory full of food; because of the changes to death mechanics, it will stay on the floor for 60 minutes. This will supply the player with enough food to outlast the boss. This strategy requires more effort and supplies, but it results in faster kills. Gear with a higher emphasis on magic defence is highly recommended, as the Corporeal Beast will be able to deal damage as normal.
Though the beast will regenerate its stats throughout the fight, it usually does not have enough time to regenerate much before it is killed. However, as it regenerates its Magic level, the chance of its attacks becomes more likely, and its maximum hit remains the same regardless of its Magic level. Therefore, using Protect from Magic and gear with high magic defence is beneficial even if its stats are reduced to prevent taking high damage hits.
Quick-banking
Another option for players with access to Osmumten's Fang is to bring a full inventory of karambwan, attack the boss without draining defence (or with only one or two Elder maul hits), teleport out using a fast bank teleport like the Crafting Cape to refill on food, then teleport back to the Corporeal Beast's lair as quickly as possible. The boss will heal for 100-150 hp in the time you are outside the room, but this is easily overwhelmed by the damage you can do to the boss before running out of food, with most kills requiring 3-4 food refills. Because of the Fang's high accuracy even against a Corporeal Beast with full stats, this strategy gets rapid kills without the effort of de-gearing, dying in the boss room, and re-gearing every kill. You will take large amounts of damage using this method, burning through 60+ karambwan per kill, and you should plan to eat any time your HP drops below 70, but the low tick delay on eating a karambwan without eating another food at the same time means eating does not significantly decrease your DPS. The ring of suffering (ri) and Amulet of Blood Fury are better options than the traditional DPS rings and amulets, to decrease the amount of time spent eating and recoil the boss' attacks. This strategy will not work with weapons other than the Fang.
Solo with an alt
For players with access to an alt that has 82 attack and reasonably high strength, defence, and magic levels (85+), doloing the Corporeal Beast (fighting it on two accounts at the same time) with Osmumten's fang offers far more kills per hour than other solo methods (~21 with a maxed alt), because it eliminates the need to both drain the boss and leave the room for food. It is recommended to bring an elder maul or dragon warhammer on each account and reset with house pools until at least one spec lands. From there, each account's inventory of food should be enough to simply kill Corp head-on if both are using Osmumten's fang. An inventory of mostly karambwans with only about 4-6 normal food for combo eating is ideal to minimize the high amounts of attack delay that will be incurred. If Corp is targeting one account heavily, one may drop some food on the non-targeted account as a precaution, then pick it up on the targeted account 1 minute later.
It is recommended the player familiarizes themselves with permanently eliminating the dark core using melee before attempting the dolo method, as it is a consistent and quick way to eliminate the core and leaving it alive will greatly complicate the kill when playing on two accounts. The easiest way to permanently kill the dark core in a dolo is to keep your two accounts spaced out as they attack Corp until the dark core spawns. When you see the dark core spawn, stop attacking Corp by equipping each account's elder maul/dragon warhammer. Watch the dark core to see which account it jumps to, and hover your cursor under that account's feet until the option to attack the core appears. Attack it right away and then immediately run away from the core. If the hit is fatal, the core should jump away after you kill it and permanently disappear when it lands. If this fails to kill the core permanently, simply try again. Once the core has been killed, continue to fang Corp on both accounts, eating as necessary, until it dies.
A 3rd account may also be used for backup elder maul/dragon warhammer/Tonalztics of Ralos specs, as well as casting vengeance other, heal other, and energy transfer on the dps accounts (for voidwaker specs). This can result in up to 26 kills per hour.
It is recommended to bring either a crafting cape or amulet of eternal glory on the accounts to facilitate faster banking. Travelling through the house to bank is about 10-11 seconds slower per kill than using one of these alternatives.
Melee - Solo and Duo
This section assumes that the player is using the stat draining method to completely reduce the Corporeal Beast's damage output. The setup shown in this section currently costs approximately 882,557,434 coins (or 139,651,184 without the Inquisitor's great helm, Emberlight, avernic defender, Torva full helm, Masori body (f), Masori chaps (f), Avernic treads, and Elder maul, which are only marginally better for their high cost). See the table below for an overview of equipment alternatives in case this setup is not accessible or too expensive.
Notes
- Noxious halberd surpasses Osmumten's fang if Corp's defence level is below 70. As a result, it is recommended for methods that fully or near-fully reduce Corp's defence.
- Bring an elder maul/dragon warhammer for its special attack. Optionally, bring a mythical cape, tyrannical ring (i) or brimstone ring, and inquisitor's great helm or Zombie helmet as item switches to increase the elder maul/dragon warhammer's accuracy, as well as the best available defender if using a dragon warhammer.
- Bring the Emberlight for its special attack (the Arclight will provide the same special attack at lower accuracy for much lower cost.) Optionally, bring the best available defender, as well as a bellator ring, warrior ring (i) or brimstone ring and warrior helm to increase the Emberlight or arclight's accuracy for the first ten special attacks (after which gear that increases strength bonus becomes more effective).
- Bring a Bandos godsword for its special attack.
- Bring a divine super combat potion or super combat potion for boosting combat stats.
- Bring prayer restore potions to restore prayer points, unless prayer flicking.
- Bring high healing food as backup; typically only a couple are needed per kill.
- Bring a teleport to house (either runes for casting Teleport to House, house tablets or Construction cape).
- Bring rune pouch with runes for Vengeance if using house tablets or Construction cape.

Notes, gear, and inventory
- See the above quick-pool section for a more detailed outline of the strategy.
- Due to the accuracy and damage of Corp's magic attacks, magic defence is highly valued, sometimes at the expense of strength bonus. In addition to costing time, using the pool/statue will heal the boss, so minimising downtime is essential.
- Bring an elder maul or dragon warhammer for their special attack, as well as your maximum crush bonus gear such as Inquisitor's armour, mythical cape and tyrannical ring (i)
- Bring a Voidwaker for its special attack, and an ultor ring or berserker ring (i) swap when using VW specs
- On the Lunar spellbook, bring runes for Spellbook Swap, Vengeance and Thralls
- Bring a divine super combat potion or super combat potion to boost combat stats
- Saturated heart or Imbued heart are used to boost magic defence
- Bring your fastest teleport to a restore pool to restore HP and Spec (Desert amulet 4 > Nardah teleport > Teleport to house (tablet))
- Bring games necklaces to teleport to Corp, and a fast teleport to a bank for in between kills
- With 70+ Prayer level, prayer potions should never be necessary since you're forced to use restore pools frequently
Equipment upgrades and downgrades
See the above dolo section for more information. The gear setup is identical for both accounts and focuses for DPS over defence in many slots because the added defence is unnecessary. The food both accounts are carrying is more than enough to see the kill through in this equipment following the outlined strategy, so shedding DPS in these slots only slows kills down.
Equipment upgrades and downgrades
This method focuses on draining only a part of Corporeal Beast's defence and dying in the room to have an extra supply of food. As the majority of the time is used on killing the boss as opposed to draining its stats, this method is slightly faster but requires more high-end gear and is more resource and skill intensive.
Before equipping this setup, use three Elder maul and four to six Emberlight special attacks on the boss, then purposefully die within the room (preferably close to the entrance) with a full inventory of cooked karambwan two or three times; unless picked up and dropped again, these will stay on the floor for a full hour before despawning and serve as extra supplies that will be needed due to the boss's high damage output.
The setup is based on a mix of magic defence and strength gear. For ironmen, including the time to obtain the extra food used, this method may not be faster effective kills if you do not have some of the demonstrated equipment such as Armadyl armour. It also requires more practice to become a consistent method; a large portion of mitigating damage taken, and therefore needing to heal less which takes time away from damaging the boss, is switching between a shield and a magic staff (for their added magic defence) and the spear between attacks, and optionally switching between a magic prayer (e.g. Augury) and Piety. Making mistakes is also more punishing due to the increased risk of dying and effectively resetting the fight.
Notes
- An imbued heart or a magic potion is recommended to increase Magic level which subsequently increases magic defence and reduces damage taken.
- Vengeance and ring of suffering (i) charged with rings of recoil are highly recommended.
- A shield and a staff or wand with high magic defence are highly recommended for "shield switching" (as detailed above); examples include elysian/spectral spirit shield, twisted buckler, and dragonfire ward, and master/kodai wand, staff of the dead and trident of the swamp.
- Cooked karambwans are more effective than higher healing food due to their lower delay after eating: as opposed to most other foods, a karambwan adds a 2-tick attack delay after eating as opposed to 3 ticks. They are also more easily obtained in bulk.
- A dwarf multicannon is recommended to deal more damage and deal with the dark energy core while focusing all player damage on the boss; the steel cannonball drops from the boss should largely sustain them.
- It is recommended to have the supply piles six tiles east of the entrance and lure the boss to the entrance before starting the fight, then moving east of it. The Corporeal Beast moves randomly during the fight, which will drag the player away from the supply piles if it is not trapped between the player and the entrance.
