Spirit shields are a range of members shields known for their prayer bonus. There are five types of spirit shields, with the stronger ones being upgraded versions of the base shield. Both the base shield and the items for upgrading are obtained as rare drops from the Corporeal Beast.

Holy elixir can be added to a spirit shield to upgrade it to a blessed spirit shield; spirit sigils can then be attached to the blessed spirit shield to upgrade it further. Attached sigils cannot be removed, with the exception of the arcane sigil; Abbot Langley can extract it from the arcane spirit shield, returning the sigil but destroying the blessed spirit shield in the processes.^[1]

Level 90 Prayer and level 85 Smithing are required to attach a sigil to a blessed spirit shield. If the player lacks the required Prayer level to attach a sigil, Abbot Langley at the Edgeville Monastery will do so for them for a price of 1,500,000 coins.

Trivia

Spirit shields and sigils are similar to godswords and hilts, in that both are made from multiple rare high-level monster drops, and both have four modifiers. The main difference is that once a spirit shield is enhanced, it cannot be changed, unlike the hilts of a godsword.
