The helmet of the moon is an item obtainable as a rare drop from the moon chest, requiring a moon key to open. It is identical to the helmet worn by Chosen Aluinus, and wearing it whilst investigating the green campfire at Shipwreck Cove will result in unique dialogue from him.

The helmet's melee defence stats are the same as an iron full helm, but with improved magic attack and defence, akin to the gnome hats and their equivalents. Additionally, the +3 prayer bonus puts it in line with halos. Offensively, its stats are slightly inferior to a mitre but without prayer and magic requirements.

Trivia

The Helmet of the Moon is considered one of the rarest items in the game due to the extensive time investment required to obtain it. Current estimates suggest approximately 900 hours of gameplay may be needed to acquire enough keys to reach the drop rate of 500 chest searches. The current fastest methods of obtaining each key half are fishing sharks while using shark lures and killing icefiends in the Ruins of Tapoyauik respectively, both offering just over 1 key half per hour.
