The Ruins of Tapoyauik is a dungeon located under the Tower of Ascension in Varlamore. They are visited during the quest The Heart of Darkness, after completion of which the ruins become populated with a variety of monsters, all of which are susceptible to fire spells. Prior to quest completion, they are not accessible.

Entrance to the dungeon

Pulling the chain on the bottom floor allows the player to freely climb up and down the chain, without having to navigate the agility obstacles. Additionally, a lift platform is available on the ground floor of the Tower of Ascension, which brings the player to the bottom floor of the dungeon, where Amoxliatl is.

The moon key can be used on the chest located on the bottom floor of the ruins for various rewards.

A Dwarven multicannon cannot be placed inside the ruins.

History

Tapoyauik was originally a fortress built by the Old Ones before their demise (which the Twilight Emissaries believe was due to the last cycle of Ximoua).^[1] The Twilight Temple was later built on top of the ruins of the fortress, during the reign of Emperor Imafore.

The Twilight Temple was seen as blasphemous by the people of Varlamore and thus was abandoned for many years.^[2] Eventually, Metzli was drawn to the temple due to its position atop Tapoyauik.^[3] She formed the Twilight Emissaries and brought her followers to the Temple to begin excavating the Ruins of Tapoyauik.

Transportation

Transport routes to the ruins include:

The pendant of ates can teleport directly to the Twilight Temple, near the lift.
Quetzal Transport System to Salvager Overlook (requires the Landing site to be built) and run South towards the Twilight Temple.
Quetzal Transport System to Quetzacalli Gorge (unlocked by default) and run North-East through the gate followed by a turn to the South around The Proudspire mountain.

The lift platform at the Tower of Ascension can then be used as a shortcut after completion of The Heart of Darkness quest, which will bring you to the centre of the slayer area part of the dungeon.

Monsters

The bottom level of the ruins, where some more difficult monsters can be found.

The door to Amoxliatl's lair, found at the west end of the bottom floor.

All monsters within the ruins drop frozen tears, which are used to charge the pendant of ates, as well as the tooth half of the moon key.

Mining

Two runite rocks on the bottom floor, north west corner. The rocks are only partially protected from the nearby ice giants; if attacked, manoeuvre the ice giant to the east of the stalagmites.
