Runite rocks are the second-highest level rock, requiring 85 Mining to mine. When successfully mined, the player receives a runite ore and 125 Mining experience. After being mined, runite rocks take 12 minutes to respawn (6 minutes within the Mining Guild). The long respawn times make world switching practically mandatory to collect any reasonable amount of runite.
Due to competition from players and bots, some strategy is required to mine runite in popular areas. Rather than world hopping continuously forward, it is useful to keep track of the time that you mine the ores on a specific world, then returning to that world shortly before it respawns. Alternately, rocks with quest requirements are much less popular and do not require such world hopping strategies. Examples are the Fossil Island mine requiring Bone Voyage, the Central Fremennik Isles mine requiring starting The Fremennik Isles, or Mourner Tunnels requiring starting Mourning's End Part II.
Mining runite ore is not recommended for players who are solely interested in Mining experience due to how slowly the rocks are successfully mined. For example, to go from level 98 to 99 Mining, players using a dragon pickaxe would need to spend on average about 63 hours mining runite.

The chance of successfully mining a runite rock varies from 17/256 at level 85, up to 19/256 from level 97 and up.[1] Only invisible boosts increase the chances past level 99, like the +7 in the Mining Guild and +4 from the celestial ring.

The mining gem drop table has a 1/256 chance to roll on every mining attempt;[2] if the player is wearing a charged amulet of glory, amulet of glory (t), or amulet of eternal glory, the probability increases to 1/64.2.[3][4] If the table successfully rolls, the player may receive an uncut gem or nothing, and in either case can not receive an ore.[5] This neither depletes the rock nor grants Mining experience. The rates shown are for every mining attempt.
