Amethyst crystals

Amethyst crystals are the highest level rock in Old School RuneScape, requiring 92 Mining to mine. They are located exclusively in the Mining Guild with two areas to mine them from; the area directly west of the bank chest requires completion of the elite Falador Diary (and having spoken to Belona for permission), while the area further south-east has no additional requirements to mine.

When successfully mined by a player, they receive an amethyst, which yields 240 Mining experience. Each amethyst crystal can be mined 2-3 times before fully depleting. After being mined, amethyst takes 75 seconds to respawn.

Wearing expert mining gloves allows the player to mine one additional amethyst before the geode depletes. Wearing any other mining gloves does not affect its chance to deplete.

The mining gem drop table has a 1/256 chance to roll on every mining attempt;^[1] if the player is wearing a charged amulet of glory, amulet of glory (t), or amulet of eternal glory, the probability increases to 1/64.2.^[2][3] If the table successfully rolls, the player may receive an uncut gem or nothing, and in either case can not receive an ore.^[4] This neither depletes the rock nor grants Mining experience. The rates shown are for every mining attempt.

The probability for a player to receive some amethyst drop depends on the player's mining level. The rock will deplete after 2-3 amethysts are mined, unless affected by the effect of expert mining gloves which will then deplete after 3-4.

The chance of successfully mining an amethyst crystal varies from around 3.5% at level 92, scaling up to about 4.3% at level 99.^[5] Bear in mind only invisible boosts provide improvements over level 99.

• Amethyst crystals are the only 'rock' in the game that can always have a chance at acquiring unidentified minerals, since they are unique to the Mining Guild.
• Unlike other rocks that have mining glove interactions, amethyst crystals, runite rocks, and sandstone rocks are only affected by one set of mining gloves - the expert gloves. All other rocks that have mining glove interactions are affected by both the expert gloves and one or both of the standard mining gloves and the superior mining gloves, depending on ore type.
