Ancient essence crystals are the fourth highest level rock in Old School RuneScape, requiring 75 Mining to mine. They are located exclusively in Ghorrock Dungeon's mine, which can only be accessed once the Secrets of the North quest has been completed.

Crystals can be mined to obtain 1-4 ancient essence at a time depending on Mining level, yielding 13.5 Mining experience per successful mine. They will occasionally yield certain uncut gems like most mineable rocks. Only one spot will be active at a time, switching between two other nearby spots randomly with 60 to 90 seconds between each movement.

The currently known rates are as follows:

• At 75-77 Mining, 1-2 essence per ore mined
• At 78-89 Mining, 2-3 essence per ore mined
• At 90-99 Mining, 3-4 essence per ore mined

Mining enhancers have no effect on crystals, however, the crystal pickaxe's effect does, therefore mining crystals with a charged crystal pickaxe will consume charges.

It is not possible to receive the rock golem pet from mining crystals.^[1]

At level 90 mining with a crystal pickaxe and Prospector kit, players can expect ~10,000 mining xp per hour and ~2593 ancient essence per hour.

The mining gem drop table has a 1/256 chance to roll on every mining attempt;^[2] if the player is wearing a charged amulet of glory, amulet of glory (t), or amulet of eternal glory, the probability increases to 1/64.2.^[3][4] If the table successfully rolls, the player may receive an uncut gem or nothing, and in either case can not receive an ore.^[5] This neither depletes the rock nor grants Mining experience. The rates shown are for every mining attempt.
