The infernal pickaxe is a special pickaxe that requires level 61 Mining to use and 60 Attack to wield. It is created by using a smouldering stone on a dragon pickaxe, requiring level 85 Smithing[not boostable] to create, and starts with 5,000 charges. Doing so grants 200 Mining experience and 350 Smithing experience.
A player uses a smouldering stone to create an infernal pickaxe.
Mining rocks with it equipped or in the inventory will give a 1/3 (33%) chance for the ore to automatically combust. This will destroy the ore, using one charge and granting roughly half of the Smithing experience based on the amount that would usually be gained when creating a bar from the ore. For rocks that cannot be smelted, Smithing experience will be gained based on the level required to mine the rock. At some mining spots, such as Motherlode Mine, Volcanic Mine, amethyst, gem rocks, crashed stars, dense runestone, or punishment rocks, the infernal pickaxe does not consume ores and acts as a regular dragon pickaxe.
Players can only use the standard, tradeable dragon pickaxe to create the infernal pickaxe; attempting to use other variants will result the chatbox stating "The cosmetically upgraded pickaxe is too beautiful to convert into an infernal pickaxe."
The infernal pickaxe possesses the same special attack as the dragon pickaxe, which will boost a player's Mining level by 3. This consumes 100% special attack energy.
The effect can trigger alongside the bonus resource effect of the celestial ring, consuming one or possibly both ores and granting experience for each.
The infernal pickaxe cannot be reverted back to a tradeable dragon pickaxe or smouldering stone.
Upon creation, the infernal pickaxe starts with 5,000 charges, and consumes one charge each time its effect activates. When fully depleted, the pickaxe can still be used as a regular dragon pickaxe. However, it will remain untradeable. Recharging the infernal pickaxe requires another smouldering stone or dragon pickaxe.
