Amethyst is a type of mineral mined from amethyst crystals in the Mining Guild. Mining it requires the player to have a Mining level of 92 and grants 240 Mining experience.

Amethyst can be cut with a chisel into several Fletching materials, including arrowtips, bolt tips, dart tips, and javelin tips. Amethyst materials and ammunition made from amethyst fall between rune and dragon gear in terms of level requirements and power.

Amethyst can only be mined in the Mining Guild. There are two sections in the guild that have amethyst crystals. The mine accessed via the south part of the guild can be used by everyone, but the larger cave to the west requires completion of the Elite Falador achievement diary to use.

While wearing expert mining gloves, amethyst crystals will not deplete for one roll[1], allowing players to mine an additional amethyst before depleting. The Varrock armour 4 double ore effect can also trigger when mining amethyst.

Trivia

  • Speaking to Utrec in the Mining Guild will reveal that the dwarves in Keldagrim use amethyst as a construction material.
  • During development, the mineral was planned to be named "quartz".[3] After receiving player feedback on how common quartz is in real life, Jagex renamed the mineral as "amethyst", which is a rare and valuable variety of quartz.
