Amalgamations are mining nodes located in the Scar essence mine. A Mining level of 64 or higher is needed to mine tainted essence chunks from them.

A chance to mine extra chunks of tainted essence is granted while wearing Varrock armour, a Mining cape, or a charged celestial ring or signet.^[1] The invisible Mining level boost granted by the passive effect of the celestial ring and signet does not affect how many tainted essence chunks are received when excavating amalgamations.^[2]

The size of the amalgamation has no bearing on the amount of tainted essence that can be mined from it; however, it does change the rate at which you mine tainted essence chunks. Mining from small amalgamations uses the mining speed of your pickaxe, whereas mining from the medium and large amalgamations has a mining speed of 2 ticks, regardless of what pickaxe you use. Like rune essence rocks, every attempt to mine an essence is successful regardless of Mining level.

Additionally, the respawn times of the larger variants are longer than that of the smaller deposits.
