A soft clay rock is a protruding rock containing soft clay. A player with a Mining level of 70 or higher can mine soft clay from these rocks, which are found in the Trahaearn mine, granting 5 Mining experience for each ore mined. After being mined, a soft clay rock takes 1.2 seconds to respawn.

Wearing a bracelet of clay whilst mining soft clay grants two soft clay instead of one for every successful mine.

Rocks deplete and produce one soft clay on every successful mining attempt, though more can be gained using special equipment.

Pre-roll

The mining gem drop table has a 1/256 chance to roll on every mining attempt;^[1] if the player is wearing a charged amulet of glory, amulet of glory (t), or amulet of eternal glory, the probability increases to 1/64.2.^[2]^[3] If the table successfully rolls, the player may receive an uncut gem or nothing, and in either case can not receive an ore.^[4] This neither depletes the rock nor grants Mining experience. The rates shown are for every mining attempt.

Equipment

Varrock armour 2, 3, and 4 give a 10% chance to receive an extra soft clay.
Celestial rings and signets charged with stardust give a 10% chance to receive an extra soft clay. They also give a +4 invisible Mining level boost, but this has no effect as success is guaranteed on every mining attempt well before level 70.
Prospector kit boosts Mining experience by 2.5%.
Mining capes give a 5% chance to receive an extra soft clay.
Bracelets of clay always produce an extra soft clay.
The boosts from Varrock armour, celestial rings, and Mining capes stack additively for a maximum of 25%.
Mining gloves and all their variants have no effect.
