Salax salt is an item mined from the salt deposit in the centre of the asylum where Duke Sucellus is fought, where three to six pieces are given each time the player mines it. The amount of salt received is based on the player's Mining level:

• Level 1-69 Mining yields 3 pieces.
• Level 70-74 Mining yields 4 pieces.
• Level 75-79 Mining yields 5 pieces.
• Level 80 Mining or above yields 6 pieces.

Six pieces of salax salt are mixed in the asylum's Fermentation Vat, alongside six musca powder and six arder powder, to create one arder-musca poison, which are used to wake the Duke. There is an iron pickaxe spawn in the boss room located near the stairs half-protruding from the wall. Higher level pickaxes will produce salt at an increased rate, unless tick manipulation is used.
