The blackstone fragment is a modified shard of the ancient pillar found in the Lassar Undercity. It is obtained from Ketla after showing her the ring of visibility during Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire. During the quest, it is used to instantly leave the Shadow Realm within the Lassar Undercity upon activating it. It can be also used to recall the shadow blocker, revitalising idol, and anima portal back to the player's inventory from wherever they were placed.

The fragment must also be in the player's inventory during the fight against The Whisperer, as it is used at various points in the fight where her attacks must be countered from within the Shadow Realm; the player will be prompted to activate it when it begins glowing yellow. Without the fragment, the player will refuse to fight her.

If players lose the fragment, it can be re-obtained by speaking to Ketla, or from Ketla's workbench in the Residential District, located in the building just north of the Western Residential District teleporter.

• Inspecting the ancient mould in the Grimstone Dungeon with a blackstone fragment in the inventory results in additional dialogue.
