The Stranglewood is a dangerous forest located south of Mount Quidamortem, first visited during Desert Treasure II. The forest's fauna and flora have been infected by a parasitic organism known as The Strangler.

Players are susceptible to infection from the Strangled in the area until the Stranglewood section of Desert Treasure II is completed. Players come to learn that the parasite is actually more of a plant unintentionally created by the Old Ones when they attempted to learn soul transference.

Transportation

  • The ring of shadows awarded on completion of Desert Treasure II teleports players directly to the Stranglewood Temple entrance. Players must first use the strangled tablet on it, which is obtained as a 1 in 25 drop from Vardorvis.
  • Fairy ring code BLS brings players a short run west to the rowboat, which can be boarded to reach the north-eastern coast of the Stranglewood.
  • In Leagues, the League Navigator at Quetzacalli Gorge can take players directly to and from the Stranglewood.

Points of interest

Ritual site

The ritual site is home to Vardorvis, first fought during Desert Treasure II. He can be fought again after the quest, with the option of fighting an "awakened" version, which has an increased difficulty.

Stranglewood mine

The Stranglewood mine is an area with three iron rocks in a triangle formation and one runite rock. Players should be aware that, while uncommon, it is still possible for Strangled to reach the mine.

An unusable cave can be entered into south of the mine. Doing so will result in a chatbox message saying "You crawl into the dark and dreary tunnel..." and then "You get lost and somehow end up coming straight back out."

On the west side of the mine is a stone chest which can be picklocked. Doing so will trigger a trap that teleports players to a random area in Zeah. The locations players are teleported to cannot be escaped from without the use of teleportation. The chest can only be opened once; the player will refuse to open it a second time.

Trivia

  • Prior to 9 August 2023, the music track The Old Ones (originally heard in The Garden of Death) played within the Stranglewood. With the update, the song was replaced by Strangled. The Old Ones still plays within the dungeons inside the Stranglewood, such as the temple where you fight Kasonde Shaw.
  • When using an oculus orb in the Stranglewood mine, players can spot another branch of The Sheared Ram pub to the east.
  • A cave can be peeked into, causing a small spider to jump out and hit the player for 3 damage.
