The Dawnbringer is a powered staff obtained from the skeleton next to the entrance to Verzik Vitur's throne room in the Theatre of Blood. When a player takes the staff from the skeleton, a chatbox message will state You find the Dawnbringer; you feel a pulse of energy burst through it.

Used to break Verzik Vitur's shield during the first phase of the final fight against her, the Dawnbringer ignores accuracy rolls, meaning the player will always deal successful hits, even when at or below -64 Magic attack bonus.

After her shield is destroyed, the Dawnbringer will crumble to dust. When this occurs, a message in the chatbox will state The weapon falls apart in your hand as Verzik's shield is destroyed.

Special attack

A player using the Dawnbringer's special attack, Pulsate.

The staff's special attack, Pulsate, fires a powerful blast towards Verzik Vitur, inflicting 75-150 hitpoints of damage towards her and consuming 35% of the wielder's special attack energy.

As players must deplete her health quickly before all the pillars in her throne room collapses, it is mandatory for teammates to drop the staff for another player to perform the special attack once they have depleted their own special attack energy.

Magic damage gear bonuses, prayer and base magic level/boosts do not affect the damage inflicted by the Dawnbringer's special attack, and it is guaranteed to be a successful hit.[1]

Maximum hit

The following formula may be used to describe the maximum hit of the Dawnbringer:

This formula is the same as the trident of the swamp, then divided by 2 and floored. Both magic damage bonuses and visible stat boosts will modify the max hit of the spell; likewise, stat-reductions will lower the damage. Invisible boosts, such as from the Dawnbringer's attack styles, do not affect the max hit. The staff always has a max hit of at least 2, even when reduced to 0 magic.

Changes

Date Changes
3 March 2021
(Update)

The Dawnbringer should now drop to the floor if a player uses Verzik's crystal shard to exit the raid.

Trivia

  • Should players somehow successfully smuggle it out of the raid, it is automatically destroyed.[2] This is because when the Theatre of Blood was released, there was a bug where players who died would drop another item in their inventory, and they would respawn outside with the Dawnbringer instead.[3] Jagex quickly hotfixed the issue, and as the only player who saw a disadvantage was an ironman whose Armadyl chestplate went to one of their party members, Jagex swapped the item back to its original owner.[4] This hotfix also made it so the Dawnbringer automatically crumbles to dust once it is no longer needed in the fight.
