A clue scroll (master) is the highest tier of clue scroll. It rewards a master reward casket upon completion. After completing 100 master clues, the player will be awarded the scroll sack.

Master clue scrolls can be between 6 and 8 steps long.

Players can obtain a master clue scroll from the following methods:

  • By bringing one each of the easy, medium, hard, and elite clue scrolls to Watson, who is located in the large, fenced-in house west of the Forthos Ruin in Hosidius. Clue scrolls may be handed in individually. It should be noted that if you already have the maximum number of master clue scrolls (see scroll case) for your account, Watson will still take all lower tier scrolls but NOT give you a new master scroll until you either complete or discard one of your existing master scrolls. You will not be allowed to give Watson any more lower tier scrolls until the master scroll has been claimed.
  • As a potential reward from completing any easy, medium, hard or elite treasure trails, with the chances of obtaining them being 1/50, 1/30, 1/15, and 1/5 respectively.

Like elite and hard clue scrolls, master clue scrolls also have combat encounters. They include a Brassican Mage, Double agent or three Ancient Wizards (in multi-combat areas). As their tier suggests, master clues require numerous high-levelled items, requirements, and quests in order to complete them.

Mechanics

Dying with a scroll

As clue scrolls are untradeable, they are sent to the gravestone if unprotected on PvP or PvM death, even above level 20 Wilderness. Clue boxes are not necessary and only add additional risk when in the Wilderness.

Multiple clues

As with all tiers of clue scrolls, only one master clue scroll can be held, kept in Death's Office, or stored in a bank at one time; attempting to open a scroll box (master) while holding a master clue scroll gives the message The clue box refuses to open - you already have a clue. However, it is possible to drop clues on the floor, where they'll stay for one hour, allowing players to have multiple clues at once. Dropping prior clue scrolls while having done some of their steps does NOT retain the steps of the dropped clue when starting a new one.

Casting an alchemy spell

When casting an alchemy spell on a clue scroll, if the game setting that triggers a warning on untradeable items is disabled, a different confirmation warning is triggered, asking "wouldn't you rather solve the clue?". If the game setting is enabled, only the regular question is triggered.

Types of clues

Please note that it is possible to receive the same clue more than once.
