Marks of grace are a currency obtained while training Agility on certain Agility courses. They can be spent at Grace's Graceful Clothing for pieces of the graceful outfit and amylase, which is the secondary ingredient for creating stamina potions. In addition, marks can be exchanged with Osten in Shayzien to recolour pieces of the graceful outfit.

Obtaining marks of grace

Marks of grace appear randomly as players complete laps of the following courses:

Higher level courses have a greater chance of spawning marks. Marks spawned are player-specific, meaning players are only able to see and pick up marks spawned for them and not for other players.

When a mark appears on the course, players have 10 minutes to pick it up before it will disappear. Marks spawn at semi-random times at specific locations along a course. It is possible for multiple marks to spawn on the same tile, which stacks the marks and resets the despawn timer to 10 minutes. Ardougne is an exception, as the marks can only spawn on one tile, and each new mark refreshes the 10 minute timer. When logged out, marks stay on the ground, and this timer is paused.

Marks of grace can also be obtained indirectly via the Brimhaven Agility Arena or Colossal Wyrm Agility Course, by exchanging Amylase packs with Grace at an exchange rate of 7.5 Brimhaven vouchers or 12.5 termites per 1 mark of grace.

Achievement Diary boosts

Completing the easy, medium and hard Kandarin Diary increases the chance of receiving marks of grace during the Seers' Village Rooftop Course by rerolling for a mark after a failed spawn roll with a 5, 10, or 15 percent chance respectively.[1] This translates to an effective 10, 20, or 30 percent increase to the base rate of spawning marks (1/3).

Similar to the Seers' course, completing the elite Ardougne Diary adds a 25% reroll to failed mark rolls on the Ardougne Rooftop Course. In addition to this, 50% of the time the usual 3 minute cooldown is reduced to 2 minutes, which with the approximate 45 second lap time leads to an approximate 21% increase to the marks spawned per hour.[2]

Completing the hard Desert Diary and hard Fremennik Diary gives a 1/3 chance to reduce the 3 minute cooldown to 2 minutes on the Pollnivneach Rooftop Course and Rellekka Rooftop Course, respectively.[3]

Optimal strategies

Canifis Rooftop Course has the greatest chance at spawning marks for players between level 40 to 89 Agility, due to its higher-than-normal spawn rate of 2/3 instead of 1/3, and the lack of the 20-levels-over penalty that is applied to the other courses. Using the Canifis Rooftop Course will typically net players ~12-18 marks per hour, depending on luck. However, by timing the marks spawn mechanics and strategically waiting players can net up to 20 marks per hour, luck depending, at the cost of lower Agility experience. However, if one plans on training Agility beyond what is needed for the graceful outfit, they may consider switching to the Falador course when they can for increased experience rates. Compared to the Canifis course, the Falador course offers 25%–50% higher experience rates but sacrifices ~33% of the marks generated.

Timing marks

  • Start the course, noting down the minute each time a lap is completed. For example, the Canifis course takes around 45 seconds. Starting at 00:00:00, lap one would complete at 00:45:00 which is minute 0, the second lap at 01:30:00 which is minute 1.[g 1]
  • When the first mark of grace is found, the cooldown becomes the ending minute of the previous lap plus the cooldown time (3 minutes for most courses). For instance, a mark found during a lap where the previous lap completed between 01:30:00 - 02:15:00 the cooldown timer will be set to 05:00:00.
  • Once a new mark is found, the player should wait at end of the lap for the cooldown minute to be reached before crossing the final obstacle and rolling a chance at a new mark. [g 2]
  • If a new mark is found, repeat the process. If no new mark is found and the course lap time is under 60 seconds, complete another lap before the next minute is over. [g 3]

Sub-optimal with better experience

Not all players will want to sacrifice the majority of their Agility experience per hour for a slightly higher chance at marks of grace. A balanced approach can be taken where, instead of waiting, the player continues to complete more laps, only waiting when reaching the end of a lap and there is less time until the next cooldown minute than it would take to complete another full lap.

For example, with a cooldown timer of 04:00:00, the player can complete 3 laps: 01:30:00 - 02:15:00, 02:15:00 - 03:00:00, and 03:00:00 - 03:45:00. However, upon reaching the end of lap 3, the player should wait the remaining 15 seconds until 04:00:00 before completing the lap.

This strategy is not quite optimal as more laps increases the chance of failing obstacles, disrupting optimal course completion timing. However, the extra experience gained per hour may be an acceptable trade-off for most players, despite a slightly reduced rate of marks of grace.

  1. ^ See Spawning mechanics.
  2. ^ Waiting is a good opportunity for players to train other skills such as Fletching or High Level Alchemy.
  3. ^ Successfully completing two laps within a single minute rolls two chances of obtaining a mark of grace which increases probability from 1/3 to 5/9, and 2/3 to 8/9.

Colossal Wyrm hybrid method

Termites can be indirectly traded for marks of grace via Amylase packs. They also have a separate spawn timer to marks of grace, meaning the theoretical fastest method for marks of grace per hour would be teleporting back and forth between the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course and your current best rooftop course for marks of grace each time you get either a termite or mark of grace drop. This method requires the Quetzal landing site closest to the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course, a constant supply of fresh meat to refill the Quetzal whistle, and a teleport as close as possible to your chosen rooftop course (ie. Fremennik sea boots 4, Seer's village teleport, or access to ancients for Kharyrll Teleport).

Marks of grace per hour

  1. ^ The following values are the approximate number of marks of grace spawned per hour of rooftop Agility training, assuming the player's Agility is not 20 levels or more above the course requirement (unless noted otherwise), which would make the chance of spawning a mark of grace 5 times lower.

Spawning mechanics

Each course has a chance to spawn a mark of grace upon completion given that enough time has passed since the last mark of grace was spawned. For most courses this is three minutes, though this timer has a chance to be reduced to two minutes on certain courses depending on achievement diary completion:

  • The Pollnivneach course has a 1/3 chance to have the timer be two minutes if the Desert Hard Diary is completed.[4]
  • The Rellekka course has a 1/3 chance to have the timer be two minutes if the Fremennik Hard Diary is completed.[4]
  • The Ardougne course has a 50% chance to have the timer be two minutes instead if the Ardougne Elite Diary is completed.

This timer works on the scale of minutes, so if a mark of grace spawned at 00:00 game time, you would have another chance starting from the first tick of game time 00:03, regardless of what tick the mark spawned at during 00:00. This timer persists even after logging out or changing worlds.

Upon completing a lap after the timer has expired, the chance to have a mark of grace spawn is 2/5 for the Rellekka Rooftop Course, 2/3 for the Canifis and Ardougne Rooftop Course, and 2/6 for all other rooftop courses. If the unboosted Agility level of the player is 20 levels or more over the course requirement, the chances of getting a mark are 80% lower than normal for that course.[5][6] Any boost to the drop rate, such as the reward for completion of the Hard Kandarin Diary, is applied after the 80% reduction.[7] Due to a coding error, this rate reduction does not apply to the Canifis Rooftop Course.[8]

If the initial roll for the mark of grace is failed, another roll may happen depending on Achievement diary completion. With the easy, medium, and hard Kandarin Diary, failing to roll for a mark of grace on the Seers' Village Rooftop Course results in a second roll for a 5%, 10%, or 15% chance for a mark respectively. With completion of the elite Ardougne diary, failing to roll for a mark on the Ardougne rooftop course results in a second roll for a 25% chance to spawn a mark of grace.

Spending marks of grace

Marks of grace can be traded in at the Rogues' Den through Grace, an NPC who sells the graceful outfit as well as Amylase packs for marks of grace. As 10 marks of grace can be traded in to receive 100 amylase crystals, and each crystal can be used to make one dose of stamina potion, each mark of grace is good for two and a half four-dose stamina potions. The price of each piece of the graceful outfit varies, with the full set costing 260 marks of grace.

Considering the price of amylase crystals, a mark of grace can be valued at 5,610 coins.

When amylase crystals are purchased and used to make stamina potions, each mark of grace is worth the equivalent of 255 Herblore experience.

Recolouring a graceful outfit

Players can pay 90 marks of grace to recolour an entire graceful outfit, or 15 marks of grace per graceful article, to one of six different colours by talking to Osten in Shayzien as long as the player has met the requirements. Other colourations are available by spending other Agility-related currencies or recolour kits.

Treasure Trails

The Mark of grace is the item Falo requires players to show him when he sings about: A mark used to increase one's grace, found atop a seer's place.

Trivia

  • The collection log tracks how many marks have spawned for the player, not how many you have picked up. With some math, you can track how many marks you may have missed.
  • Grace has a pet dog Mark, making the name Mark of Grace into a pun.
