The tinderbox is used primarily for lighting fires by clicking 'use' on the tinderbox, then clicking a log. A tinderbox can be bought in most general stores. It is also used to light and relight candles and lanterns, so any player venturing into a dark area such as the Lumbridge Caves should bring one in case their light source goes out.
When used on logs that the player has the Firemaking level to light, the messages You attempt to light the logs. and The fire catches and the logs begin to burn. are displayed. If the player does not have the Firemaking level, a variation of the message will display You need a Firemaking level of X to burn X logs.
If the player is standing on a tile where they are unable to light logs, the message You can't light a fire here. is displayed instead.
The tinderbox is also used regularly in many quests.
