Lumbridge is a large town where players begin their Old School RuneScape journey. New players are sent here from Tutorial Island to further learn the game from various tutors across the town. Lumbridge gets its name from the bridge that crosses the River Lum.

After a player's death, Lumbridge is the player's default respawn point, although players can change their respawn location to other locations. The main point of interest of Lumbridge is the Lumbridge Castle, where players can start several quests and access its bank at the top floor.

Several transport options bring players into or close to Lumbridge, listed here with their arrival destination. From closest to farthest:

• Lumbridge Home Teleport — castle courtyard, once every 30 minutes. No Magic requirement or rune cost.
• Lumbridge Teleport — castle courtyard.
• Dying — castle courtyard (only if a respawn is set there). Players should bank items before doing this.
  • The ring of returning and theRespawn Teleport spell work the same way.
• Canoe — Lumbridge canoe station.
• Amulet of glory — nearby Al Kharid or Draynor Village.
• Gnome glider — Al Kharid.
• Fairy code DIP — Abyssal Nexus via the Appendage or DIS — Wizard's Tower.
  • Taking any fairy ring to Zanaris then leaving also leads to the Lumbridge shed.
• Cowbell amulet — inside the cow field.

• Broken raft - A grapple spot between Al Kharid and Lumbridge requiring 8 Agility.

• Fence - A fence requiring 13 Agility.
• Stepping stone - A stepping stone providing quick access to the Kalphite lair, requiring 66 Agility.

The Al Kharid gate, found east of Lozar's house, connects Lumbridge to its neighbour city Al Kharid. Until the player has completed Prince Ali Rescue quest, it will cost 10 coins to pass either way through this gate to Al Kharid, though it can be avoided with a long detour north of the Groats' farm. Group Ironmen can find the portal to the Node on the north wall of the castle.

The following lore is sourced from the Varrock Museum, dialogue with the goblin scribe, Goblins, globes and golems!, and Dragon Slayer I.

During the Third Age, the caves underneath what would become Lumbridge become home to a lost tribe of goblins, who no longer wished to fight in the God Wars. In the year 1937 of the Fourth Age, long after the God Wars ended, a town was settled on the River Lum by migrating human nomads. A bridge was made over the River Lum, connecting the areas separated by the river, which is why the settlement was named Lumbridge.

Polonius was the first Duke of Lumbridge. Polonius was given the land by the then King of Varrock, King Claudius, and built Lumbridge Castle in the place of the original wooden fortress. Today, the current Duke of Lumbridge is Duke Horacio, who is a direct descendant of Polonius. On the eastern side of the River Lum, many goblins have take up residence, conducting raids in the area. Lozar, a wizard who owned the house located on the eastern side of the river, was recently killed and looted by goblin raiders.

Lumbridge has a number of interesting locations, including training locations, character houses, combat areas, and farms.

• Players looking to train Mining can find 5 copper and tin rocks at the East Lumbridge Swamp mine, and 7 coal, 5 mithril, and 2 adamantite rocks at the West Lumbridge Swamp mine nearby.
• Many spots allow for Fishing training, including the River Lum fishing spots (for catching, trout, pike, and salmon, requiring levels 20, 25, and 30 respectively), and the swamp fishing spots (for catching shrimp, sardines, herring, and anchovies, requiring levels 1, 5, 10, and 15 respectively). The latter features the Fishing Tutor.
• For Woodcutting, many trees fill the town. Players with level 15 Woodcutting can cut oak trees west of the Lumbridge Castle, and players with level 30 can cut the willow trees located north-west of it. Players with level 60 Woodcutting can chop the two yew trees found either west of the castle or in the graveyard.

Lumbridge features many farms and fields:

• Fred's farm, a large farm where players can shear sheep to obtain wool which may be spun at the castle. Onions can be collected from the farmer's garden. Also, there is a log standing on the ground outside of Fred the Farmer's house from which a bronze axe may be taken. There are also many chickens here that new players can kill.
  • The Lumbridge pasture is a large cow field north of Fred's farm.

• Groats' farm, a massive farm featuring cows, chickens, and farming patches. The chicken coop is commonly used for players to train early Prayer levels, since all chickens drop bones and are very easy to kill.
  • The Lumbridge cow field is a part of the Groats' farm featuring many level 2 and 5 cows and calves, which are useful for low level players who wish to train their first combat levels. These cows also have a 100% drop rate of raw beef, cowhide, and bones. A dairy cow is also available for milking, being part of Cook's Assistant quest.
• The Mill Lane Mill is a windmill connected to several large fields and pens.
• A tree patch and a hops patch can be found behind the Lumbridge Castle and north of the Groats' farm water wheel, respectively.
• There is also the Lumbridge pond, a small pond inhabited by ducks.

The large Lumbridge Swamp is filled with rats on the surface, and even more monsters in the caves below. The caves feature low-level Slayer monsters, which player must bring a light source to enter and fight against. East of the the swamp is the traveller's camp, a camp set up by a warrior, an archer, a wizard, and a monk who seek the city of Zanaris. The swamp also contains the water altar, a runic altar upon which water runes are crafted from rune essence or pure essence.

• The name 'Lumbridge' is based on the real life city of Cambridge, England, where the Gower brothers grew up and where Jagex has its headquarters. The cities' name schemes are similar: Lumbridge is built over the river Lum while Cambridge is built over the river Cam.
• Upon players completing the quest Garden of Tranquillity, the statue of King Roald outside of the Lumbridge castle courtyard becomes an empty plinth and the statue itself is moved to the garden east of the Varrock palace.
• The fourth god letter contains a response by Saradomin writing about the early days of RuneScape. He says Lumbridge used to host traditional Sunday afternoon craft fairs that were 'a bit of a let down' as a result of there being no Crafting skill at the time.^[1]
• According to another god letter, Lumbridge has a football team called the Lumbridge Eagles.
