Goblins are small, green, humanoid creatures. Though lacking intelligence and strength, goblins make up for this with overwhelming numbers. They are followers of the god Bandos, who they refer to as the "Big High War God". Goblins are frequently at war with the other races of Gielinor, in particular dwarves and gnomes.
History
Goblins are native to the plane of Yu'biusk, and were brought to Gielinor by Bandos. This knowledge, however, is lost to them, and most goblins think they were created by Bandos himself.
Since times unknown, goblins have been divided into twelve different tribes: the Thorobshuun, the Garagorshuun, the Rekeshuun, the Drogokishuun, the Huzamogaarb, the Saragorgak, the Ekeleshuun, the Idithuun, the Narogoshuun, the Dorgeshuun, the Horogothgar, and the Yurkolgokh.
In the God Wars, all goblins were called to fight for the armies of Bandos, with a few exceptions. The Huzamogaarb and the Saragorgak, were sold as soldiers to the gods Zamorak and Saradomin, respectively. The Rekeshuun were sent to the Temple of Lost Ancients to fight for the Godsword. The Dorgeshuun tribe refused to fight for Bandos and instead took refuge beneath the earth, where they still reside to this day.
Following Bandos' banishment at the end of the God Wars, many of his followers fell into civil war amongst themselves. Bandos' leadership that united the various races of the Feldip Hills also left with him, resulting in the region devolving ever more into chaos and even giving rise to a quasi-genocide of goblins by the ogres that forced a mass exodus of goblins into Kandarin.[1][2] The goblin tribes fought amongst themselves in the Battle of the Plain of Mud, which led to great casualties. Although Bandos could not communicate directly with his followers, he gave the goblin Hopespear a vision, ordering them to stop the fighting; otherwise, they'll wipe themselves out. In the vision, Bandos gave him the four commandments and stated that he would send a Chosen Commander to someday lead the goblins to victory over the world. Following Hopespear's vision, the goblins ceased their infighting and constructed the Goblin Temple, which sank into the mud of the drenched battlefield, where the goblins had fought.
Many goblins today do not remember to which tribe they belong to and simply live on the surface in groups, disorganized. The Dorgeshuun, however, developed a vibrant culture underneath the human city of Lumbridge and have established diplomatic relations with the Duke of Lumbridge and the dwarves of Keldagrim.
Culture
Goblin culture revolves around war. To sacrifice oneself to the Big High War God is seen as the ultimate honour, and goblins of all ages are encouraged to fight and become strong.
Present-day goblins living on the surface now live by four commandments, which Bandos provided them with during the Fourth Age, summarising his philosophy:
Not to run from battle. Cowards must die!
Not to show mercy. Merciful must die!
Not to doubt Big High War God. Doubters must die!
Not to make own plans. Thinkers must die!
These tenets are held by the goblins as absolute and they are the foundation for the Goblin Temple. To them, Bandos is their theocratic dictator whose very being and words are neither wrong nor can be questioned.[3] They seem to have an ad-hoc worship of Bandos: Bandos turned them from nothing into warriors, but the idea that they are "nothing if not warriors" was only accepted because Bandos instilled this kind of outlook on life in them, in the first place.[4][5] Meanwhile, the Dorgeshuun cave goblins have come to reject these doctrines and lean much more toward how they were back in the Yu'biusk age when they were of a more cooperative nature.
