Barbarian Village is a small village south of Edgeville and west of Varrock. The entire village is a multicombat area containing many aggressive barbarians, so low level players are advised to proceed with caution. Players can enter the Stronghold of Security through a hole in the centre of the village.
Transportation
Several transport options bring players into or close to Barbarian Village, listed here with their arrival destination. From closest to farthest:
Skull sceptre — Stronghold of Security entrance.
Canoe — Barbarian Village station. Requires 12 Woodcutting.
Skills necklace — Cooking Guild, just east of the village.
Amulet of glory — Edgeville centre, just north of the village.
Minigame teleport — Soul Wars, which has a portal to Edgeville.
Varrock Teleport — centre of Varrock, well east of the village.
History
The following lore is sourced from the Varrock Museum.
169 years ago, the lost art of Runecraft was rediscovered, allowing humans to quickly dominate most of Gielinor, and marking the start of the Fifth Age. Part of the nomadic Mountain Tribe, led by a barbarian named Gunnar, embarked on a crusade to stop the use of Magic and Runecrafting, which they believe belong only to the gods. During this time, the first Wizards' Tower was burned to the ground (although not by the barbarians), and the magic-using Imcando dwarves were driven to near-extinction.
As casualties mounted, however, the tribes dwindled and were dispersed, and the Barbarian Village was established in between what is now Varrock and Falador as a temporary outpost until the tribes could recover their numbers. Over time, the barbarians gradually settled down, and the village became a more permanent establishment.
Locations
Buildings
| Building | Description |
|---|---|
| Longhall | The largest building in the village. This is a popular area to train ranged combat by using the tables as cover, then moving out to collect arrows and drops. |
| Lookout tower | A tall building overlooking the path from Varrock. |
| Peksa's Helmet Shop | The only non-members store where players can buy helmets other than black full helms. Peksa sells and buys medium and full helmets of bronze, iron, steel, mithril, and adamant. |
| Spinning hut | A small hut with a spinning wheel. |
| Storage hut | A small hut with no application. |
| Tassie's studio | A studio containing a pottery oven and a potter's wheel, as well as a barbarian anvil. |
Skill training spots
Despite its small size, the village has a number of useful training spots and facilities:
- The barbarian anvil can be used to make hastae after completing barbarian training.
- The Barbarian Village mine at the centre of the village contains coal and tin.
- Players can fish with feathers or fishing bait at the Fishing spots east of the village, requiring level 20 and 25 Fishing.
- There is a never-ending fire west of the fishing spots, which is popular among free-to-play players for quickly cooking caught fish. There are also perpetually burning fires in the middle of Peksa's shop and at the end of the longhall.
- The village is useful for Crafting training at low levels. Players can use soft clay with the Potter's wheel and the pottery oven nearby to craft pottery items. In the free worlds, this is the only location of a potter's wheel and oven outside of the Crafting Guild. There is also a spinning wheel that can be used to make balls of wool and other spun items.

Stronghold of Security

The medium-sized dungeon gives rewards for making it to the centre of each of its four levels, each of increasing difficulty. Various monsters inhabit each level, including goblins, skeletons, ankou, and several monsters unique to the dungeon, such as minotaurs.
