Barbarians are attackable Fremenniks found in the Barbarian Village and Outpost. They are commonly fought for training by lower level players due to their low Defence and the many obstacles in the Barbarian Village usable as safespots. If the player chooses to talk to them, they will taunt the player with quotes such as "Wanna fight?" or "You come to fight, ja?" and immediately attack; players can avoid this by immediately exiting the dialogue instead of clicking to continue.

Gunthor the Brave, a unique barbarian, is the strongest barbarian found in the village at level 29. Different barbarians can also be found in the Barbarian Camp in the Kourend Woodland.

Treasure Trails

Killing a barbarian in Barbarian Village or Barbarian Outpost for a key to be able to search the chest in the Exam Centre is the solution to the medium cryptic clue: The dead, red dragon watches over this chest. He must really dig the view.

Trivia

The current unique barbarian NPCs replaced two historical NPCs named barbarian and barbarian woman, the former of which is still present in the game files.
Some barbarians can be seen in more than one location. Alberich, Fafner, Fasolt, Siegfried, Minarch, Brunnhilde, and Edelschwarz can be found in both the Barbarian Village and the Barbarian Outpost, even though Siegfried's examine states him to be a guard in the Barbarian Village.
- Similarly, Acelin, Adelino, Aitan, Gutrune, and Sieglinde could be found in both the Barbarian Village and the Barbarian Camp, with Acelin's examine having the same oversight. However they were replaced by unique barbarians with the release of A Kingdom Divided.
Barbarians may ask "You come to fight, ja?", with ja meaning "yes" in Scandinavian languages, referencing the barbarians being inspired by Vikings.
Most barbarians seem to be named after characters in the German poem "Song of the Nibelungs"; for example, Siegfried.
