Imp repellent is an undrinkable potion with two uses when capturing implings:

• In the Impetuous Impulses minigame, the imp defenders located in Puro-Puro's maze try to free captured implings in impling jars from the player's inventory and knock the jar a few tiles away. Higher Thieving levels and imp repellent decrease their chances. The lowest tier implings are released first.
• When used on the lamp oil still in the Chemist's House in Rimmington, players can use a butterfly jar on the still to make an impling jar. Note that the repellent is consumed by the still and transforms only one jar.

It is made by combining anchovy oil with marigolds, rosemary, nasturtiums, or any of the flowers grown from a mithril seed, such as assorted flowers. Elnock Inquisitor will exchange 3 baby impling jars, 2 young impling jars, and 1 gourmet impling jar for one imp repellent in Elnock's Exchange.

Bug:

The repellent's usefulness is severely limited by a bug affecting the imp defender's aggression. Testing in game reveals that imp defenders permanently stop being aggressive after freeing only one captured impling, only resetting their behaviour upon a server restart. Trapping them to force respawn has no effect on aggression, nor does time elapsed since a server restart, despite statements by Jagex Moderators.^[1][2][3]
