Overview
Training Hunter actively can pose a challenge if certain regions are not unlocked. Misthalin✓ which is unlocked by default allows the semi-passive training of Hunter through bird house trapping, which can be completed every 50 minutes. The Natural History Quiz can also be completed in Misthalin at level 1 Hunter, and grants 1,000 base experience. This will bring Hunter to level 20 with the 5x boosted experience rate at tier 1.
Hunter is modified by the following relics:
Animal Wrangler Hunter traps will never fail, Box traps catch chinchompas faster and are doubled when caught (additionally giving double XP) and impling jars no longer break upon opening them.
Equipment
There are three hunter shops in Desert✓,
Kandarin✓ and
Varlamore✓[note 1] for the majority of Hunter equipment in one place. All regions have access to box traps as they are added to general stores around the world, bird snares through the scenery item on the Isle of Souls and teasing sticks through the item spawn on
Karamja✓. Elnock Inquisitor in Puro-puro will provide players with a one-time bundle including a butterfly net and 7 impling jars, while the Leagues Tutor will provide one additional jar per day when requested. Furthermore, a magic butterfly net can be obtained in any region through a trade with Elnock Inquisitor in Puro-puro. For region limited equipment, magic boxes for trapping basic Imps and noose wands can only be obtained from the regions that contain a hunter shop mentioned above with the one caveat that noose wands can be obtained from the Hunter Kit spell in the Lunar spellbook allowing
Fremennik✓ to access this item. This does however have the effect of polar kebbits being unable to be hunted solely in the Fremennik region until
71 Magic.

Hunters' Rumours
For players picking Varlamore✓, with
46 or higher, Hunters' rumours are a very attractive choice due to the rewards provided in Hunters' loot sacks which contain resources for other skills such as logs, herbs, Hunter meats, bird's nests, and sun-kissed bones/shards. Completing rumours also awards bonus experience upon turn in of the rare creature parts equal to , where:
- is the player's Hunter level after completing a rumour
- The value of is dependent on the tier of rumour completed:
- 50 when turning in a Novice or Adept rumour
- 55 when turning in an Expert rumour
- 60 when turning in a Master rumour
Through creative use of region selection and block-list creation, players are able to narrow down the creatures offered in rumours to very small numbers, in certain combinations being able to force one specific creature for every rumour.
An example of this is that with just the starting regions of Karamja and Misthalin, upon unlocking Varlamore (which is required for Hunters' rumours), using the Guild hunter Teco to obtain Expert rumours allows players to block Sunlight antelopes at Wolf, Aco or Gilman, Sunlight moths at Cervus or Gilman, and Grey chinchompas at Aco, Cervus or Gilman and as a result obtain 100% Herbiboar rumours, not only increasing the experience rate of doing the Hunter training method itself but additionally adding the loot sack rewards.

Optimal block lists with Varlamore only
Which creatures you block will vary heavily on your current unlocked regions. Below are some recommended block lists for Varlamore-only rumours.
From level 57 - 72 Hunter, players should complete Adept rumours. Using these block lists, with only Varlamore unlocked, restricts the available rumours to only Embertailed jerboa or
Grey chinchompa rumours with Cervus and Ornus respectively.
Depending on the leagues experience multiplier, it may take longer to set up the blocks than it does to reach 72 Hunter for Expert rumours. If this is the case, do Ornus rumours without any blocks.
- Using Ornus for
Embertailed jerboas will be a slower experience rate, but may have less competition for hunter creatures.
- Using Cervus for
Grey chinchompas will result in a faster experience rate, even with the long run around the Isle of Souls, but may have a larger amount of competition for creature spawns.

| Gilman (Novice) | Cervus (Adept) | Ornus (Adept) |

| Used for active rumours |
From level 72-74 Hunter, the fastest rumours completion rate is Sunlight antelope.
However, Sunlight antelope are much more prone to competition than Grey chinchompas, as their respawn rate and mechanics make them much slower to catch. Because of this, it may be better to catch Grey chinchompas instead, depending on your relic choices and the popularity of the Isle of Souls location. No blocks are required to only receive both grey chinchompas or sunlight antelope, and you can use Gilman to block the other. Blocking one of Grey chinchompas or Sunlight antelope with Gilman will be valid all the way to level 99 Hunter to force single expert rumours.
The most efficient Master Rumours require Sunlight antelope to be blocked by Gilman. It is easiest to block them between 72 and 75 hunter, so players looking to complete master rumours for associated league tasks may want to block them now.
From level 75 - 80 Hunter the fastest rumours completion rate is with only Sunlight Moths from Teco.
This section includes a recommended blocklist for Teco at 75 Hunter. While either Aco or Teco can be chosen before 75 Hunter, the main difference is that Aco will provide
Tecu salamanders at 79 Hunter which have a high rumour rate during normal gameplay, but will likely be very competitive during leagues.
To build your block list, you should start with the Huntmaster Gilman (Novice) since he has the largest pool of available rumours. Once Gilman assigns any of the rumours from the table below, complete rumours for the other hunters until you finish the block list.

Birdhouses
Birdhouses are a useful way to train hunter passively on Fossil Island while doing other activities. A minimum of 8 Crafting and 5 Hunter is required to begin bird house trapping.
Four clockworks are required. Each clockwork requires a steel bar in its construction, requiring 30 Smithing if not acquiring through combat. A Construction level of 25 is also required to create the crafting table 2, which is the minimum needed for clockwork.
At level 75 Crafting and 74 Hunter, players can create magic bird houses. Finding magic logs can be quite troublesome to acquire for lower levels however, and skilling can be quite inefficient when other monsters drop large amounts often.
At level 90 Crafting and 89 Hunter, players can create redwood bird houses, which provide the most experience at 19,200 experience at tier 7. However, redwood logs are even harder to obtain, requiring either Kourend✓ and 90 Woodcutting, or
Morytania✓ and 80 Firemaking. The latter is much more inconsistent for this purpose, and players are better off using magic bird houses instead.
Driftnet Fishing
Drift net fishing provides both Hunter and Fishing experience. A drift net is required, which requires two jute fibres; this essentially requires 13 Farming to grow and harvest jute.
However, it may be troublesome to acquire the material as only one hop patch is available in Misthalin✓. Two are available in
Kandarin✓, and one each for
Varlamore✓ and
Asgarnia✓.
