Swamp tar is a thick substance found in the Lumbridge Swamp, Mort Myre Swamp, and in tar barrels.
Swamp tar can be turned into swamp paste, which is used for various repairing purposes. It can also be distilled into lamp oil, which is used as fuel for various light sources, or be used to make guam, marrentill, tarromin, harralander, and irit tar, which are used as bait and ammunition for salamanders.
Uses
Swamp paste
It can be combined with flour to produce raw swamp paste, and then heated on a fire to create swamp paste. Swamp paste is a sticky item used in the Sea Slug quest as well as the Shades of Mort'ton and Fishing Trawler minigames.
Herb tar
When combined with a Guam, marrentill, tarromin, harralander, or irit, swamp tar becomes ammunition for salamanders when used as a weapon. 1 herb is needed for every 15 swamp tar.
The action of creating the herb tar can be used in tick manipulation, allowing you to do certain actions faster.
Lamp oil
Swamp tar can be processed at the home of the Chemist or at Miltog's Lamps (in Dorgesh-Kaan) to turn empty lanterns into filled lanterns so that they may be lit.
Collection
There is no way to craft swamp tar, and no shops that sell it. Killing Cave Slimes is the fastest way to collect a moderate amount of swamp tar. Requires 17 Slayer and a light source. An Antipoison is recommended and a rope is needed to enter the Lumbridge Swamp Caves for the first time.
Manual collection is significantly slower with two locations:
- Lumbridge swamp has several spawn locations.
- The boat used to navigate to Lunar Isle "Lady Zay" has tar barrels on both floors, which swamp tar can be collected from. Requires completion of The Fremennik Trials quest.
