Cave kraken are slayer monsters that are found in the Kraken Cove. They can only be attacked if players have them as a Slayer task. To be assigned cave krakens, players require level 87 Slayer and 50 Magic. Along with their boss variant, the Kraken, they are the only monsters to drop the Kraken tentacle and the Trident of the seas.

In order to fight a cave kraken, a player must first "disturb" one of the many whirlpools found within the cove. Fishing explosives cannot be used to surface the regular cave kraken like one might their boss counterpart.

Magic is the only reliable way of dealing damage to the cave kraken, as Ranged attacks deals 1/7th of its normal damage and Melee cannot be used, including halberds. Their attacks are magic rather than typeless (meaning they can be prayed against).

In the collection log, the uncharged trident that cave kraken drop (found in the Other/Slayer section), is a separate entry to the Trident of the seas (full), which the Kraken boss variant drops (found in the Bosses/Kraken section).

The Kraken boss is generally more favourable to kill for Kraken slayer tasks. Outside of ironmen seeking their first Trident of the seas, which drops at a more frequent rate than the full charged one from the boss, or collection log completionists specifically looking for the uncharged trident log slot, there is little incentive to kill them over the boss as their drop table is significantly less lucrative.

Trivia

Cave kraken use the same model as the Sea Troll Queen, but it is recoloured and resized.
The cave kraken had a festive override wearing a santa hat during the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Christmas events. Both the NPC and skill guide icon had the override.
If a player attempts to use Fishing explosives to disturb a cave kraken's whirlpool, they will path accordingly but ultimately be unsuccessful in doing so. They will simply be met with the game message, "I can't reach that!"
