Tears of Guthix

This quest has a quick guide. It briefly summarises the steps needed to complete the quest.

Tears of Guthix is a quest where you must help Juna, a follower of Guthix, restore a cavern in the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. Within the dungeon the walls flow with tears, a relic of Guthix's horror at the destruction during the God Wars. Completion of the quest grants access to the eponymous minigame, where it rewards experience in the player's lowest skill each time it is played.

Description	Deep in the caves in the Lumbridge Swamp is an enchanted place where the tears shed by Guthix when it saw the destruction Saradomin and Zamorak had caused with their wars flow from the very walls. These tears are said to have magical properties to help players gain deeper understanding of the world. However, the cave is guarded by a loyal serpent named Juna who blocks passage from everyone. However, she has grown bored from three thousand years of sitting in the dark cave and wishes to hear stories of life above. Maybe you could come to some sort of arrangement...?

To start, speak to Juna in the Chasm of Tears, reached through an entrance at the south end of the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. You will need a light source to navigate the caves. Since the quest requires a sapphire lantern later, it is advised to use this as the light source, making it before entering the caves to save a trip. Making the sapphire lantern does not require starting the quest—players can simply make it by adding a cut sapphire to an unlit bullseye lantern or bullseye lantern (unf) and then lighting it with a tinderbox. The lantern must be filled with lamp oil by bringing swamp tar to the lamp oil still at the chemist's house in Rimmington or the lamp still at the Dorgesh-Kaan market. The lens must be swapped and the lantern lit before entering the caves, as the game will not allow you to extinguish the bullseye lantern while in the dungeon or the chasm of tears.

If you have completed The Lost Tribe quest, you may skip to Option B. If not, use Option A. Partial completion is possible, you must only reach the point at which it is possible to obtain the brooch.

Travel via the entrance in the Lumbridge swamp. You will need a rope if this is your first time entering the caves. Once inside, you will need to pass by several holes in the wall, which contain wall beasts that can grab you and do damage. A spiny helmet can be worn to reduce damage from the wall beasts, but an easier option is to just stop one square away from each hole and then run past it. Doing this will always successfully avoid the wall beast's grab. Be sure to also avoid getting hit by any cave crawlers as they can deal inflict a strong poison; they can be avoided by taking the south path. The small area in the middle south of the dungeon also contains swamp gas that will ignite any exposed light sources, dealing damage. This should not be an issue if only bringing the sapphire lantern.

The Chasm of Tears is found at through an exit to the south-east of your starting location. You will have to cross an agility obstacle which can be failed, but since you are using a covered light source it will not be extinguished. No damage is taken upon failing the obstacle and the player will still end up at the other side. Once inside, climb down the rocks and talk to Juna.

If you have access to the second entrance from the Lumbridge cellar, this provides a much faster and safer route to reach Juna, as there will be no wall beasts, cave crawlers, or swamp gas along the way. If this is your first time, you will have to use your pickaxe to clear the rocks to access the swamp caves. Simply head directly south from the entrance and cross the stepping stone to reach the Chasm of Tears, then climb down the rocks and talk to Juna.

Speak to Juna and choose to tell her stories about your adventures (you may also optionally choose to hear the lore about the place from her). She will tell you that you need to make a bowl to collect the tears, and that the only substance that can collect it is found in the rocks across the chasm. If you ask her how to cross the chasm, she will tell you the story of the light creatures and hint that they are drawn to their own colour. If you do not yet have a sapphire lantern, you will need to exit the caves entirely to make it if the bullseye lantern is your only light source (see the section above).

Head back towards the direction you came from and climb the rocks, then click "attract" on one of the nearby light creatures. The sapphire lantern will then attract it, causing it to pick you up and transport you to the other side of the cavern where the magical rocks are.

Use your pickaxe to get a magic stone, and then use your chisel to craft it into a stone bowl. One will be enough. You must have told Juna a story to be able to make the stone bowl. After this, head east and climb down the rocks to get back to Juna. Give the bowl to her to complete the quest.

Tip: The sapphire lantern may be used again for While Guthix Sleeps. It is also possible to retrieve the sapphire by extinguishing the lantern and then using the lantern lens on it.
