The Lunar Chest is a chest found in the Ancient Shrine within Neypotzli. It can be opened after defeating at least one of the Moons of Peril, although all Moons must be defeated once in order to unlock the chest for the first time. On average it takes approximately 320 openings in order to receive all uniques.

Loot mechanics

Defeating any one of the Moons of Peril grants the player a non-stackable 1/56 chance at a piece of their equipment: for example, defeating the Blood Moon will give a 1/56 chance at a piece of the blood moon armour set. If successfully rolled, a separate 1/(number of items in set not obtained yet)^[1] roll is made to determine which remaining piece is given. As such, the player will not obtain duplicate pieces from a set until each piece in the set has been received at least once.

The Moons may be defeated alongside one another, with independent rolls being made for the respective unique items of each Moon defeated; it is possible to receive uniques from two or all three Moons in one chest. Defeating all three of the Moons of Peril will result in an overall chance of receiving at least one unique item of , (or 1/19).^[2] The expected number of chests to complete all three sets is 320.

If a unique item is received, the standard loot table will not be rolled at all; otherwise, the table will be rolled a number of times depending on the number of Moons defeated:

1 Moon gives 1 roll
2 Moons give 3 rolls
3 Moons give 6 rolls

Rewards

The average Lunar Chest loot is worth 180,014.51 if all 3 Moons are defeated before opening the chest. Excluding uniques, the average loot is worth 49,845.18.

On average, each chest opening also provides 1470.75 prayer experience from the untradeable blessed bone shards and sun-kissed bones with blessed wine (or 2424.75 including Wyrmling bones) or 1764.9 with blessed sunfire wine (or 2909.7 including Wyrmling bones).
