Watermelon seeds can be planted at level 47 Farming. 3 seeds are sown in an allotment patch to grow watermelons, which yield the watermelon food item used in Cooking to make summer pies. They take 1 hour and 20 minutes to grow.

A nearby gardener will watch over growing watermelons (excluding Harmony Island) for 10 curry leaves, either noted or unnoted. Fully grown nasturtiums or white lilies in a nearby flower patch will also protect the watermelons from disease.

These seeds can be stolen from master farmers and seed stalls. They may also be obtained from Temple Trekking, the Wintertodt reward cart, high-level gambling at the Barbarian Assault minigame, and Farming Guild seed packs.

Harvesting watermelons from the patch on Harmony Island is a task in the hard Morytania Diary. There is no gardener on the island to watch over the crops.

Average harvest yield

Watermelons have a minimum of 3 harvest lives, increasing by 1 for each tier of compost used (for a maximum of 6 when using ultracompost). While harvesting watermelon, there is a chance to not consume a harvest life dependent on the player's Farming level. This chance scales from 49.6% at level 1 to 70.7% at level 99, interpolating linearly in between.

Magic secateurs (equipped or in inventory) increase the chance of receiving additional yield by 10%.
