Earthen nagua are Slayer monsters that require level 48 Slayer to kill. They are found in the Tonali Cavern after completion of the The Final Dawn quest. As with sulphur and frost nagua, earthen nagua have -4 flat armour, so all successful hits will do an extra 4 damage to them. Because of this, it is useful to bring a multi-hit weapon such as the glacial temotli, since each hit separately benefits from the flat armour.

When an earthen nagua is damaged after falling below 60% health, they enter a reinforced form, shifting their defences to be more resistant to slash while being weaker to crush. When they do so, a message in the chatbox states The nagua reinforces its outer body to protect itself. If a neutral damage type (such as poison or burn) lowers their health to below 60%, this effect will only activate after they are attacked with regular damage. Entering their reinforced form also clears burns but does not prevent a new instance of burning.

Once an earthen nagua has entered its reinforced state, hitting it with a special attack while the weapon is set to crush causes their armour to shatter and become weakened, reducing all of their melee defence bonuses to 0, as well as restoring a small amount of prayer points. This mechanic cannot be triggered by the special attacks of the dual macuahuitl and blue moon spear, despite having crush combat styles.

Because earthen nagua can only be weakened after damaging them over 40% of their health, doing so is generally a less efficient usage of special attack energy than starting a kill by hitting it with a single multi-hitting special attack like that of the dragon dagger; the increased damage from hitting multiple times against negative flat armour will generally outweigh the effect of removing their defensive bonuses. However, the prayer restoration effect can be used to extend trips and reduce the need for supplies.

If this weakened state needs to be triggered, using a dragon hasta special attack can be the cheapest way to do this, by using it while having only 5% energy remaining. The dragon mace can also be effective for this purpose. Alternatively, the Dinh's bulwark can be used to trigger the weakened state in multiple naguas at the same time.
