Ice Mountain is located just north-west of Barbarian Village, and the main entrance to the Dwarven Mine is located on its lower southern slope. It dominates northern Asgarnia, and is Asgarnia's only remaining region in which it snows year-round.

Players can walk there fairly easily from Falador (go north and north-east) and from the region of Barbarian Village and Edgeville (go west). Other transport routes to the mountain include:

• Use a combat bracelet to teleport to the Edgeville Monastery and go south and west. This is the fastest way to reach the ramp to the mountain.
• Cast Lassar Teleport from Ancient Magicks to teleport on top of mountain, or use a Lassar teleport (tablet) or Lassar teleport from a portal in your POH.
• Enter the Dwarven Mine from Falador (either directly or via the Mining Guild) and travel to the mine's exit on the mountain.
• Use the Keldagrim mine cart system to go to the Dwarven Mine and then exit onto the mountain. Players can enter the cart system in Keldagrim or in the tunnel under White Wolf Mountain.
• Use a skull sceptre to teleport to Barbarian Village and then walk west to the mountain.
• Useful for Ironmen: Use the chronicle book, then using an axe cut a canoe behind the champions guild and travel to the Barbarian Village. From there Ice Mountain is a short run.

The mountain is accessible from its eastern side, from the ramp marked by two standing torches.

The mountain is dotted with dead trees. The northern peak has a white tree, which is featured in the Garden of Tranquillity quest, and the Oracle, who is involved in the Dragon Slayer I quest and some Treasure Trails clues. The Oracle has tattered clothing, and she is white from staying in the cold so long. When talked to, she gives random pieces of advice and RuneScape versions of old sayings. On Members' worlds (only), icefiends roam the mountaintop and are good training monsters for lower-levelled players.

The Black Knight's Fortress is located on the lower northern slope of the mountain. Players will enter the fortress during the similarly named quest and again in King's Ransom. Lower level players should watch out for aggressive black knights wandering the area. The northern end of the mountain extends into the Wilderness, reaching all the way to level 4 Wilderness. The mountain itself however is not considered part of the Wilderness and is completely safe. A small section of the Wilderness ditch can be used to access the Wilderness from the mountain.

The western side of the mountain contains the entrance to the Ruins of Camdozaal, accessible upon completion of the Below Ice Mountain quest. The west flank also features a shortcut requiring 68 Agility that provides quick access to Camdozaal from the top of the mountain.
