Chaos cores are the corrupted cores of Chaos Golems, imbued with the power of the Chaos Altar. They can be used in place of pure essence, but only for crafting chaos runes. They act as if the player was carrying eleven essence instead of one, meaning each core gives 85 Runecraft experience and 11 chaos runes or 2,380 Runecraft experience and 308 chaos runes for a complete inventory.
Like regular essence, the amount of chaos runes crafted will increase with the player's Runecraft level; each chaos core will craft 22 chaos runes at level 74 Runecraft.
Golem cores cannot be placed in essence pouches. If players attempt to store them in one, a chatbox message will appear, stating "The golem core is too big to fit in an essence pouch." Furthermore, cores cannot be taken through the altar portals at Guardians of the Rift.
The Charm of Luck buff purchasable from Ramarno's Shard Exchange does affect the drop chance of the core.
A chaos core is used in the quest Defender of Varrock on a Barronite deposit to create an Imbued barronite.
