Unobtainable items

This article contains information about a subject known only to exist in the game APIs or cache. The content is not known to be accessible in game, or may be reserved for use in a future update.

Unobtainable items are items that exist within the game's code, but cannot ever be obtained by players via normal gameplay. These items are usually found by extracting information via the game's cache. Some of these items are found in game, but cannot be placed into the inventory.

These items, like all other items, have an ID number assigned to them. Item IDs may change over certain updates, and may fill unused IDs that are considered null. Certain items used exclusively may be removed from the game and their item IDs relabeled as "Null", which are represented in the cache as pink skirts.

These items have never appeared in the game in any form. Usually, they are items leftover from content that was significantly altered or removed during development, making them useless.

Items with no ID were deleted from the game before the release of the RS2 Beta Item test on 3 March 2004.

1460		Soul talisman	A mysterious power emanates from the talisman...	The item was found in the cache in Old School RuneScape as ID number 1460 and 1461 (its noted form). It was removed entirely with the release of Great Kourend, leaving the current item ID of 1460 and 1461 as Null. With the release of Yama, it was readded.
1465		Weapon poison	For use on daggers and projectiles.	An unobtainable version of Weapon poison that would have been displayed at the stall of the cut Weapon poison salesman in the Ranging Guild, similar to display tea.

1867		Burnt pitta bread	It's all burnt.	As players can no longer burn pitta dough by the time they have the level required to cook it, it is impossible to obtain burnt pitta bread.
N/A		Bowl of food	It's a bowl of chopped food.	Unknown – may either have been the result of adding a wrong ingredient to the kebab mix, or part of a scrapped feature where players could also have made regular kebabs using regular chopped meat as opposed to chopped ugthanki.
2203		Rock-climbing boots	These boots were made for trolling.	A joke item referencing a controversial update in RuneScape 2. Released along with the Grand Exchange, it can only be searched through its search interface.
2829		Clue scroll (medium)	Part of the world map, but where?	An unused map clue that points to near the Ranging guild. It has never been obtainable by players.
3006		Firework	A firework potion; this'll look pretty!	Released alongside the Brimhaven Agility Arena, it was possibly meant to be made from either Toadflax or Snapdragon.
3550		Clue scroll (hard)	Perhaps someone at the observatory can teach me to navigate?	An unused coordinates clue that leads to the Desert west of Pollnivneach. It has never been obtainable by players.
4010		Monkey magic	A small sample of monkey magic.	Presumably an unfinished item cut from Monkey Madness I.
4018		Monkey wrench	For wrenching monkeys I'd guess.	Presumably an unfinished item cut from Monkey Madness I.
4238		Puddle of slime	It's a puddle of slime.	Was presumably intended for use during Ghosts Ahoy.
4572		Pages	Missing pages!	Two missing pages from Rolad's book collected in Between a Rock.... As the pages can only be combined when all three have been found, this item is unobtainable.
4595		Karidian disguise	Makes my face itch.	Was presumably intended for use during The Feud, but was replaced by the desert disguise. It can be found while searching the item on the Grand Exchange.
4602		Ugthanki dung	Poor Camel, what have I fed you?	Occasionally during The Feud, Ali the Camel will produce a green variant of the regular Ugthanki dung. However, players cannot pick it up, with the player stating "Aw man I'm not going near that - it's just far too stinky!"
4653		Fire	Hot!	Was presumably intended for use during Desert Treasure I. While on the ground, players have the option to study it.
4692		Gold leaf	Very delicate thin pressed gold.	Added alongside Icthlarin's Little Helper, thought to be related to Raetul
5356		Plant pot	A plant pot filled with soil.	An unobtainable plant pot containing supercompost.
5551		Soul tiara	A tiara infused with the properties of the soul.	The item was found in the cache in Old School RuneScape as ID number 5551 and 5552 (its noted form). It was removed entirely with the release of Great Kourend, leaving the current item ID of 5551 and 5552 as Null.
5552		Gear	Used in machines and locks the rune over.	Presumably intended for use in the Rogues' Den. Most likely, players would have to pick them up to use the Gear door, similar to Tiles.

6640		Red crystal	A red crystal.	Was presumably intended for use during Mourning's End Part II.
6678		Guam in a box?	'Ingredients; Ground Guam and Ground Seaweed.' Well, I have the Guam Leaf...	Unknown - an identical copy of Guam in a box.
6680		Seaweed in a box?	'Ingredients; Ground Guam and Ground Seaweed.' Well, I have the Seaweed...	Unknown - an identical copy of Seaweed in a box.
6707		Null amulet	A gift from Lord Null.	A placeholder for the Camulet before it was released to players.
6717		Karamthulhu	My pet sinister squid.	It was originally intended to be able to keep a Karamthulhu from Rum Deal as a pet.
7226		Burnt chompy	Overly crispy chompy.	If players failed to roast a chompy, it would have resulted in this item instead of a ruined chompy.
7228		Cooked chompy	Roasted chompy bird.	Released alongside the iron spit, it was never made obtainable, but has appeared in the Grand Exchange interface.
7463		Cornflour	A little heap of cornflour.	When the Pot of cornflour was added for use in Sir Amik Varze's subquest of Recipe for Disaster, this item was presumably added to correspond with the potless flour.
7466		Cornflour	It's cornflour.	This version of cornflour is marked as specifically for use during Recipe for Disaster. It is tradeable, and listed on the Grand Exchange.
7519		Crab meat	A smelly meat.	Unknown - a copy of Crab meat that is usable by free players.
7750		Moonlight mead	A foul smelling brew.	Presumably intended to be obtainable from a Moonlight mead barrel in a player-owned house, but scrapped before launch.
7804		Ancient mjolnir	An Ancient Mjolnir.	Was presumably intended as a reward for treasure hunting with the enchanted key. It was released alongside A Soul's Bane, as both the mjolnir and the anger weapons were leftover content from the enchanted key.
7938		Bob	Bobbity bob!	A placeholder for "Large essence" that was presumably intended to be added alongside Pure essence. The item has since been replaced with Dark essence fragments.
7974		Servant bell	I wonder what happens when I ring it?	Possibly would have been used in Player-owned houses to summon a Servant. It is identical to the Grail bell, which curiously appears in the Construction skill guide instead of the servant bell.
8022		Telekinetic grab (tablet)	A tablet containing a magic spell.	A magic tablet variant of Telekinetic Grab.
8796		Limestone brick	A well carved limestone brick.	Unknown - an identical copy of the Limestone brick added with Construction. It was deleted on 25 August 2016.
9106		Astral tiara	A tiara infused with the properties of the heavens.	Was presumably intended for use during Lunar Diplomacy.
9595		Hazelmere's book	Looks magical...	Has a "read" option that was intended to replay the cutscenes seen during The Eyes of Glouphrie, but this was cut for time before launch.
9596		A eyeglo null	You should never see this!	Unknown - presumably intended for use during The Eyes of Glouphrie. It has an identical appearance to the Stethoscope.
9605		Yellow circle	A yellow circular crystalline disc.	Although it is meant to be obtained from Oaknock's Exchanger for use in The Eyes of Glouphrie, due to the complex formula the machine uses this piece can never be obtained.
9716		Rock	A chunk of rock.	An unobtainable version of the rock from Elemental Workshop II.
10567		Thingy	Mabob.	Unknown – 7 identical sapphire amulets with these names filled slots 10567-10580. As one has since been replaced with a Healer icon, they may have been related in some way to Barbarian Assault.
10829		Documents	To Ali Morrisane of Al Kharid	Unknown – possibly intended for use during The Fremennik Isles.
10950		Skull staples	Five skull staples.	Unknown - despite sharing a name with the Skull staple from The Great Brain Robbery, it was not released until weeks after the quest and strangely has the same appearance as Plunder from Cabin Fever.
11164		Restored shield	Complete Shield of Arrav.	The two halves of the Shield of Arrav combined, it can only be seen on display and is never obtainable.
11165		Phoenix crossbow	Former property of the Phoenix Gang.	An unused version of the Phoenix crossbow that was added with the rework of Shield of Arrav.

11427		Fish vial	This vial is half-filled with mashed fish, yuck.	Presumably another concoction made via Barbarian Herblore. Most likely, players would added Roe or Caviar to a vial of water first, then adding the secondary ingredient to create a Barbarian potion.

11525		Wimpy feather	More fluff than feather.	Unknown – it was added on 9 July 2007, when feathers from Hunter were updated, yet it is not obtainable, likely was intended to be released with the As a First Resort quest, launched on 29 January 2008.

19567		Combat scarred key	A key to a door in a maze beneath Ape Atoll.	Presumably intended to be used during Monkey Madness II, like the combat damaged key.
20582		Adamant gloves	A pair of nice gloves.	An item intended for use in Last Man Standing that was never made available to players.
20585		Amulet of power	An enchanted diamond amulet of power.	An item intended for use in Last Man Standing that was never made available to players.
21826		Redundant hat	Never used.	Unknown – a version of the ancestral hat probably meant to be used in the 2017 Deadman tournament.
21829		Redundant top	Never used.	Unknown – a version of the ancestral robe top probably meant to be used in the 2017 Deadman tournament.
21832		Redundant leggings	Never used.	Unknown – a version of the ancestral robe bottom probably meant to be used in the 2017 Deadman tournament.
23605		Imbued zamorak cape	A cape from the almighty god Zamorak, imbued with great power.	While it was intended that all three god capes would be usable in Last Man Standing, only the imbued guthix cape is available to players.

25040		Trailblazer trophy	A Trailblazer trophy.	Initially intended to be available as a reward for top 100 players at the end of Trailblazer League, the item was withdrawn on 2 September 2020 before the release of Trailblazer League on 28 October 2020.
25106		Extradimensional bag	It seems larger on the inside than it is on the outside.	Intended for use in the Trailblazer League, the item was scrapped due to some severe bugs found with it late in development.

26981		Lion helm	Verac the Defiled's helm.	Originally created as part of a special art stream, an unfinished version of the Lion helm was accidentally added alongside Beneath Cursed Sands. It reused the appearance, options, and examine of Verac's helm.
30302		Torva full helm	An ancient warrior's full helm.	The original appearance of the Torva full helm prior to a graphical update on 3 August 2023. The old models were re-added to the game following community feedback to allow for use by third-party client RuneLite and its plugins, providing an override to the current in-game appearance.

31454		Ball of cotton	A neatly wrapped ball of cotton.	This item was added to the cache during the sailing alpha. It was presumably replaced at some point in development by Cotton yarn, but this item was never removed. It is tradeable, and listed on the Grand Exchange.

These items could previously be obtained during RuneScape 2. However, the method of obtaining them was removed before 2007, and as a result they have never been available to players in Old School RuneScape.

These items were once obtainable in Old School RuneScape, but were later made discontinued. Players who had one of these items at the time of its discontinuation are able to keep them, but players are no longer able to (re)obtain these items.

These items may be seen and examined ingame, but for a variety of reasons cannot actually be picked up by players.

These items were originally unobtainable for a variety of reasons; however following subsequent updates they have since become obtainable by players. This does not include items from various unrestricted worlds, Leagues, or the Ancient and Torva armour from the God Wars Dungeon which some players were able to obtain early.

4565		Basket of eggs	Hand them out to spread the Easter happiness.	Originally a temporary item only used during the 2005 Easter event, it was converted into a full holiday reward with the 2014 Easter event and renamed to "Easter basket".
5549		Blood tiara	A tiara infused with the properties of blood.	Initially intended to be used when crafting Blood runes, it was deleted from the game files with the release of the Kourend's Blood Altar. It was made obtainable on 23 March 2022 as a reward from Guardians of the Rift.
7250		Clue scroll (hard)	A clue!	A riddle clue that leads to drawers in Jimmy Dazzler's house. Although added in 2006, it was not obtainable by players until 16 February 2022.
9613		A blue circle	A blue circular crystalline disc.	Although intended to be obtained during The Eyes of Glouphrie from Oaknock's Exchanger, the item was unobtainable as the machine was fixed to always give A red pentagon. On 25 November 2020, the exchanger was updated and this item became obtainable.
9617		An indigo circle	An indigo circular crystalline disc.	Although intended to be obtained during The Eyes of Glouphrie from Oaknock's Exchanger, the item was unobtainable as the machine was fixed to always give An orange triangle. On 25 November 2020, the exchanger was updated and this item became obtainable.
21766		Hearsay and history	A page torn from 'Kharedst's Memoirs'.	Released alongside Kharedst's memoirs in 2017, this page could not be obtained by players until Tale of the Righteous on 19 April 2018. It was renamed to "History and hearsay".
21768		Jewellery of jubilation	A page torn from 'Kharedst's Memoirs'.	Released alongside Kharedst's memoirs in 2017, this page could not be obtained by players until The Forsaken Tower on 10 January 2019.
21770		A dark disposition	A page torn from 'Kharedst's Memoirs'.	Released alongside Kharedst's memoirs in 2017, this page could not be obtained by players until The Ascent of Arceuus on 10 January 2019.
22422		Elixir of everlasting	An ancient scroll about herblore.	The scroll was added alongside A Taste of Hope in 2018. However Mod West had not finished writing the scroll's text, and it did not become obtainable until the release of Sins of the Father on 4 June 2020.
22428		Old key	An old key (Used to open a chest upstairs in Slepe church).	It could originally be seen in a room north of Kroy's laboratory in 2018. However it was behind a locked door, which did not become accessible until the release of Sins of the Father.
24361		Scroll box (beginner)	Contains a beginner clue scroll.	Scroll boxes were first added for use in Leagues. However since no beginner clue steps take place in Great Kourend, beginner boxes were not obtainable until the Trailblazer League in 2020.
25244		Old key		The key was added with the Soul Wars beta in 2020. It did not become obtainable until the Isle of Souls was made accessible on 3 February 2021, when it was renamed to "Dark key".
26942		Message	A strange message.	The message from Beneath Cursed Sands was accidentally added to the game early with a system update on 22 April 2022. It became obtainable with the quest's release on 27 April.

A few items have only been available to Jagex Moderators, in order to test game features or to spawn holiday items.

Most pieces of furniture in the Study of a player-owned house were originally intended to be flatpackable, but were ultimately not made available.

These items all previously could be obtained during the Gnome Restaurant minigame. Originally, players had to add each ingredient individually, which was a painstaking process and would produce Odd food if a mistake was made at any point. On 7 August 2006 the minigame was reworked, with the majority of ingredients now being added at once via a new interface. As a result, these items have never been obtainable in Old School RuneScape.

Some items could previously be obtained as bank notes, but following updates can no longer be noted. Any player who had these items in noted forms were given unique versions of the item, that in some cases were not identical to the originals. These cannot be obtained under normal circumstances.

Other items could never be made into banknotes to begin with, yet nevertheless an ID slot was taken up by a null item where the noted form would have been. In 2005, these empty slots were filled by items with humorous names and descriptions that all bizarrely had the appearance of a Pink skirt. Players who attempted to either spawn or view the items using memory editing software would be given a Hex edit detected instead. In RuneScape 3, these items would later become viewable in the Quick Chat interface causing much confusion.

While originating as filler items for redundant ID slots, some were repurposed to serve new ends: as metadata could still be assigned to the item, the pink skirts could be read by others scripts as a sort of look-up table.^[1]
