Skull staples are an unobtainable item. They were added in March 2007 under the name Loot bag (230k).

On release, the barrelchest anchor could originally be dropped by players, and was very popular in player-killing. A week after the update, the drop mechanics were changed so that a player who died with the anchor would lose the item, and drop 230,000 coins instead. The loot bag was presumably created in order to fulfil this purpose.

However, it is unclear if the item could ever actually be obtained by players; at the time players reported receiving a stack of coins instead, and the Loot bag does not have any way to redeem the coins inside.

In any event, this mechanic was removed from the game a week later, after players realised they could die on purpose to receive 230k coins and then repair the anchor for only 50k. The Loot bag was deleted, and its name and examine were changed to that of the Skull staple, another item used during The Great Brain Robbery.
