Pieces of eight were a currency earned from the Trouble Brewing minigame used to buy rewards from Honest Jimmy's House of Stuff. During a game of Trouble Brewing, each resource deposited (i.e. buckets of water, bowls of coloured water, etc.) and opponent equipment burned (i.e. pipes, pump, etc.) would result in a piece of eight being awarded at the end of the game, up to 100 pieces of eight. Each bottle of rum deposited by the player's team gave 2 extra pieces to each player on the team at the end of the game. Pieces of eight awarded for bottling rum did not count towards the 100 pieces of eight limit for resources and sabotage, making it possible for players to earn more than 100 pieces of eight in a single game.

The amount received at the end of a game was not dependent on who was winning.

It took approximately 8 hours to complete a full outfit, the average amount earned was 100+ with each match being 20 minutes long.

In total, 39,590 pieces of eight were required to buy everything in the shop. It was not possible to sell items back to the store, so in order to fill out the collection log, at least this amount of pieces of eight were needed.

Pieces of eight were discontinued in an update on 23 May 2024, and any players with the original pieces of eight had it automatically converted to a virtual currency also named pieces of eight that is stored as a variable on a player's account. A "Count" option was also added to the original item to convert any leftover pieces into the new virtual currency.
