Sweetgrubs are insects used during Trouble Brewing, and are a key ingredient in the brewing of rum within the minigame, serving as a substitute to the sluglings that Braindeath 'rum' uses. They have a "gag-inducing" aftertaste, but are otherwise quite sweet, hence the name.^[1] Sweetgrubs live in large Sweetgrub Mounds found on both sides of the Trouble Brewing facility.

Raw rat meat can be used on the mounds to collect sweetgrubs, with 40 Hunter experience being awarded for each sweetgrub successfully collected. When attempting to draw out some sweetgrubs from a mound, there is a 1/5 chance that the mound will empty out and collapse.^[2] Players will have to find another mound or wait for it to fill again.

If the mound does not collapse after the player uses their meat on it, there is a further 1/5 chance that a swarm of sweetflies will be drawn out instead. The sweetflies will continue to attack the player until they run away, as they cannot be attacked in retaliation. No one can gather more sweetgrubs from the mound while there are still sweetflies present.
