Construction unlocks various options for storing items. This makes it one of the most useful skills to train for ultimate ironmen. The storage options are centred primarily around the Costume Room in the player-owned house, where furniture like the magic wardrobe, armour case, and cape rack can be used to store a number of useful pieces of equipment. Construction also gives access to STASH units around the world, which can store a variety of useful items like the Slayer helmet, dragon axe, and abyssal whip.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management.

Construction is also extremely useful as a way to travel around the world. At level 50, players can build the Portal chamber and build portals to teleport to various locations. Other furniture like the jewellery box, mounted amulet of glory, and mounted mythical cape serve a similar purpose of making travel around the world much quicker and easier. The Construction cape is also one of the most useful and desired skillcapes for any Ultimate Ironman, because it allows the player to infinitely teleport the player to their player-owned house and any POH portals, regardless of the spellbook they are on.

Making planks and buying items to upgrade the POH is expensive. UIM players will find that money making is an integral part of Construction training and investment into their POH.

When training Construction, it is strongly recommended to store items at an Item Retrieval Service for more inventory space.

UIM cannot send their servant to a bank or sawmill; however, the servant will make tea and food for UIMs. UIM also cannot use Managing Miscellania for Construction materials.

Useful milestones

The following list provides a list of important goals for Construction and Sailing upgrades. These represent requirements before boosts with crystal saw, tea, and/or stew, which can reduce the required level by 3, 6, or 8 when combined.

See UIM Sailing guide as well as Shipbuilding, Facilities, or Sailing level up table for more information about specific boat upgrades.

Level Unlocks
50 Can build the Portal chamber, basic furniture for item storage, and early boat and facility upgrades.
70 Requirement for Song of the Elves, quest point cape, and mid-level boat and facility upgrades.

Early training methods

In order to train Construction, players must have purchased a player-owned house at an Estate agent. Alternatively, players can complete Daddy's Home miniquest, which also grants some Construction experience and some Construction materials.

Quests (Levels 1-17)

Early levels can be skipped by completing Daddy's Home miniquest, X Marks the Spot, and Client of Kourend and putting the experience lamps on Construction. This will grant a total of 2,244 Construction experience, which is enough to get to level 14. The Tower of Life (requires level 10 Construction) grants an additional 1,000 Construction experience upon completion, which would get the player up to level 17.

Basic furniture with plank spawns

An alternative but a very slow method to get the early levels is to pick up planks (switch worlds or wait for respawn) and build low-level furniture in the player-owned house, which costs almost nothing. With a full inventory, return to the player-owned house and build some low-level furniture with the planks. This method is only recommended for getting the level 10 Construction requirement for the Tower of Life quest or until oak furniture is available. Players will need to have nails for this method, which can be bought at any sawmill (e.g., north-east of Varrock).

Useful plank spawns (assuming POH is in Rimmington):

  • Port Khazard - accessible with Fishing Trawler minigame teleport or Ardougne Cloak 1, pick up planks, take Captain Barnaby's ship to Rimmington or charter to Port Sarim, build furniture, then teleport or take the ship back to planks, repeat
  • Entrana - accessible by boat from Port Sarim, pick up planks on the north side of the island, sail back, build furniture, repeat

Clay fireplaces

Clay fireplaces can be built with three soft clay, a hammer and a saw at level 3 Construction. Bulk soft clay can be easily obtained from mining shooting stars, with the resulting Stardust used to purchase Soft clay packs from Dusuri's Star Shop in Falador at a price of 150 dust for 100 soft clay. If going from 8 Construction from Daddy's Home, one would expect to need 1350 Stardust, or 9 Soft clay packs to get to level 27 for easy S.T.A.S.H units.

Wintertodt

Subduing Wintertodt offers passive Construction experience from fixing the braziers. Because Wintertodt has relatively few requirements and it offers very useful rewards for low-level players, it is one of the best ways to bypass most of the early Construction levels. It is strongly recommended to get some levels beforehand, as fixing a brazier rewards four times the player's Construction level in experience, and this scaling affects the experience gained much more at lower levels than higher.

The amount of Construction experience gained depends on the player's method of doing the activity. While fighting the Wintertodt in a group rewards faster Firemaking experience, it is recommended for ultimate ironman players to fight it alone or in small groups, as it offers more opportunities to repair the braziers for Construction experience.

Assuming the player does solo rounds, levelling Firemaking from level 50 to 99 would get the player up to around level 70 Construction. Getting level 60 Woodcutting through Wintertodt, which would likely be achieved at around level 89–90 Firemaking would get the player up to around level 55–58 Construction. Level 50 Construction would be achieved at around 82–83 Firemaking.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Firemaking.

Levels 1–99: Mahogany Homes

Mahogany Homes contracts offer one of the fastest Construction training methods for ultimate ironmen. It is also cheaper than other methods, granting more experience per plank or inventory slot, and offers helpful rewards.

Completing Mahogany Homes contracts requires some preparation to do effectively. Several items and unlocks listed below are required or highly recommended before getting started:

Completing Contracts

Generally it is recommended to complete the highest available contracts; however, adept contracts are much cheaper than expert contracts, and may be preferable after level 70 if coins are a limiting factor. Players will also gain some Woodcutting experience when collecting logs and Magic experience from teleporting to contract locations (and optionally when making planks) while training with Mahogany Homes.

See the main Mahogany Homes page to compare experience costs (use Sawmill Only table) and consider adding 10-20% to estimated cost for other runes and teleports needed as a UIM.

The general process to complete contracts is as follows:

  1. Obtain steel bars:
    • With noted steel bars, unnote a few bars at a bank as needed. For example, stop at a bank on the way to a contract, drop a couple planks, unnote steel bars, complete the contract, then go back and pickup the planks. Alternatively, leave 2-3 inventory spaces empty when cutting logs and unnote bars into those slots.
    • With Ardougne cloak and a pickaxe, teleport to Kandarin Monastery, mine 2-3 iron ore and 4-6 coal, then superheat the ore into 2-3 steel bars. Repeat whenever more steel is needed.
    • Another option is to use the Blast Furnace to make and store steel bars. Travel there with the minigame teleport or minecart from the Grand Exchange, hop to an official Blast Furnace world, buy up to 28 iron and coal from Ordan, and place them onto the conveyor to be made into bars (pay dwarf workers as needed), then cool the bar dispenser with a bucket of water. This allows the player to store a stack of up to 28 steel bars at a time and withdraw any number of bars from the dispenser for contracts on demand. It may be worth taking 4-5 bars at a time to reduce trips to the Blast Furnace, even at the cost of less inventory space for planks.
    • Using noted iron ores and coal to superheat steel is not recommended as it can be difficult or tedious to unnote and smelt the ores without clogging the inventory or wasting ores, although they could be used effectively with the Blast Furnace as noted above (replace buying ores from Ordan with unnoting noted ores at the bank chest).
    • With sailor's amulet, teleporting to Deepfin Point (67 sailing) you can buy iron ore and coal from Korgan and use the nearby furnace to smelt into steel bars.
  2. Obtain planks:
    • With noted planks, unnote the planks at any bank on the way to contractors or contract locations.
    • With noted logs, unnote logs at any bank and proceed to a sawmill.
    • Without noted planks or logs, players will need to chop logs and then walk/teleport to a sawmill or cast plank make. Repeat to fill inventory, as well as the plank sack and/or log basket.
      • See following table for recommended tree locations for each contract tier. Choose the best location for you given available areas and teleports (meaning the lowest combined travel time and/or cost to get to the trees, collect logs, and make planks at a sawmill).
      • See next section regarding Mahogany Homes Rewards for discussion of how plank sack and log basket affect the process of obtaining planks.
  3. Get a contract if you need one (start at Amy in Falador, or go to the nearest contractor).
  4. Complete contracts until you run out of planks and/or steel bars (get a new contract before leaving the city, teleport to Amy again, or use Astral Contact after each with teleport tablets).
  5. Repeat the process until desired experience level (or until you've run out of coins, runes, or noted bars).
Contract Tier Recommended Levels Plank Type Tree Type Recommended Tree Locations and Sawmills
Beginner Levels 1-20 Plank Trees or dead trees
Novice Levels 20-50+ Oak plank Oak trees
  • Varrock sawmill
  • Auburnvale sawmill
  • Woodcutting Guild sawmill
Adept Levels 50-70/99 Teak plank Teak trees
Expert Levels 70-99 Mahogany plank Mahogany trees
  • Prifddinas sawmill, after Song of the Elves
  • Avium Savannah hardwood patch (teleport to Earth Altar, or quetzal from Colossal Wyrm to Auburnvale)
  • Fossil Island hardwood patch (teleport to Earth Altar, or take barge to Varrock digsite)
  • North of Farming Guild (teleport to Earth Altar, or take minecart to Woodcutting Guild)
  • South-east of Tal Teklan (teleport to Earth Altar, or quetzal to Auburnvale)

Experience Rates

The exact fastest process to complete contracts will vary for each player given their current experience levels, items, unlocks, assigned tier of contracts, and level of attention and effort. As a result, experience rates achieved through Mahogany Homes can vary widely without optimal gear and all content unlocked. In general, the highest experience rates will be achieved using highest available contract assignments, plank sack, log basket, ring of the elements or Prifddinas sawmill, carpenter's outfit, shortest available teleports to trees, 3-tick or 1.5-tick woodcutting, noted steel bars (and noted planks when available), and as many inventory spaces for planks as possible while having all necessary teleports and tools. See the main Mahogany Homes page for more about experience rates; however, UIM will achieve only a portion of the rates listed there.

For example, the following table compares how potential experience rates can vary for novice contracts with tick manipulation:

Experience from Novice Contracts
Method Construction XP/h Woodcutting XP/h
Ring, plank sack 72,000 14,700
Ring, no plank sack 65,000 13,300
Balloon, plank sack 60,000 12,300
Balloon, no plank sack 50,000 10,200

With casual effort (some missed ticks and misclicks) and no tick manipulation, players can expect 75,000 to 85,000 Construction experience per hour for adept contracts with the plank sack and log basket, using a portal from POH to salve graveyard for fairy ring AJP or portal from POH to Civitas illa Fortis for quetzal to Outer Fortis (avoids needing Dramen staff but requires quetzal site), cutting teaks in Avium Savannah, teleporting to Earth Altar for sawmill with ring of the elements, working on contracts until out of planks or only a couple planks are left, and unnoting three steel bars whenever the previous bars are used up. With good practice and using the plank sack in Prifddinas, players can gain up to around 95,000 Construction and 25,000 Woodcutting experience per hour with adept contracts. At level 99, it is possible to gain up to 115,000 Construction experience per hour when using the Construction cape, Astral Contact, and tick manipulation.

To achieve the highest possible experience rates without use of noted logs or planks, complete expert Mahogany Homes contracts using the following general process:

  1. Setup gear and inventory.
  2. Teleport to POH.
  3. Take spirit tree to Prifddinas.
  4. Cut mahogany logs with 1.5-tick woodcutting to fill inventory and log basket.
  5. Make planks at the nearby sawmill in Prifddinas to fill inventory and plank sack (empty log basket two times).
  6. Go complete contracts. Visit contractor to get new contracts.
  7. Unnote steel bars as needed (in Falador).
  8. Teleport to POH to repeat process when more planks are needed.

Mahogany Homes Rewards

Players should get the plank sack as soon as possible with carpenter's points, as it will increase experience rates by reducing travel. Planks are automatically consumed from the plank sack when completing contracts, and it does not degrade when filled or emptied like essence pouches. The plank sack also allows the player to easily unnote a couple steel bars after the first contract in every cycle (refill the inventory by emptying the plank sack, drop planks to make space for steel bars, unnote the bars, refill the plank sack, then pickup dropped planks). Another aspect of the plank sack is that it can reduce weight: all planks stored in the sack are weightless. Players can store planks in the sack while running to conserve energy.

Pairing the plank sack with the log basket drastically increases experience rates when cutting trees away from a sawmill (such as Avium Savannah teaks) by further reducing teleports and travel to the sawmill from trees, or to bring more logs to contracts when using plank make without plank sack. The log basket provides minimal benefit if cutting trees near a sawmill, with or without plank sack, since there is negligible efficiency gained by bringing more logs to the sawmill at once. The log basket can also reduce weight and conserve energy: all logs stored in the basket are weightless.

The following table shows how the plank sack affects travel to complete a batch of adept contracts with common inventory setups of 14 or 20 inventory slots for logs/planks. Adept contracts each consume between 9 and 17 teak planks (12 per contract on average) and are the most common contract to do by the time these items are obtained. The same idea can be applied to different inventory setups or contracts. If using noted logs or planks, replace tree trips with bank trips, and eliminate the sawmill trips with noted planks.

Free Inventory Slots No Plank Sack or Log Basket Log Basket Only Plank Sack Only Log Basket & Plank Sack
14 go to trees, then sawmill, then contracts with 14 planks at a time

complete 1 contract per inventory or 2 every two inventories

go to trees to get 42 logs, then 3 trips to sawmill and contracts

complete 2-4 contracts before cutting more logs

go to trees and sawmill 3 times to get 42 planks

complete batch of 2-4 contracts, maybe use extra

go to trees and sawmill once for 42 planks

complete batch of 2-4 contracts, use extra

20 go to trees, then sawmill, then contracts with 20 planks at a time

complete 1-2 contracts per inventory, maybe use extra

go to trees to get 48 logs, then 2-3 trips to sawmill and contracts

complete 2-4 contracts before cutting more logs

go to trees and sawmill 2 times to get 40 planks

complete batch of 2-4 contracts, maybe use extra

go to trees and sawmill once for 48 planks

complete batch of 3-4 contracts, use extra

The plank sack is not storable in POH and cannot be refunded, so it is usually dropped after finishing training or when not planning to focus on Construction for longer periods. Planks stored in the sack are not retained in ghost storage. It is recommended to save enough points to buy a new plank sack before dropping it, as plank sacks are by far the best way to spend carpenter's points for maximizing experience on a UIM, and it is quicker to obtain points while the player still has a plank sack than without one. Players must complete 88 adept contracts at 4 points per contract to obtain a new plank sack for 350 points. The log basket is storable in the POH.

Extra points can be spent on supply crates as they give Construction materials. Some players may find the other rewards worthwhile beyond collection log completion.

The carpenter's outfit can be stored in POH and offers a +2.5% experience boost. This is more valuable if worn while training to higher levels of Construction or 99+, although the player will forgo graceful or lumberjack set bonus as well as 80 supply crates to purchase the outfit. Players should consider this trade-off on a case-by-case basis given their current and target experience levels and how soon they start Mahogany Homes. If stopping at 84 Construction for max POH with boosts or 85 for master STASH units with crystal saw, supply crates should offer higher experience. The player must complete a minimum of 588 adept contracts to earn the plank sack and full outfit, which yields almost 2,000,000 experience. Level 84 Construction requires 2,951,373 experience, so it will provide minimal benefit in reaching that level considering many contracts must be completed to acquire the set and the bonus experience per piece is low. The full outfit would reduce the number of adept contracts needed to gain 1,000,000 experience from 308 to 300 on average. Although the supply crates yield mostly noted oak planks and basic materials, this nearly eliminates travel time which is the most limiting factor in UIM Construction experience rates, and they allow players to benefit from the minigame rewards sooner to expand the POH. The contracts completed with the materials from supply crates also grant more carpenter's points, slightly reducing their net cost.

Amy's saw provides no benefit while wielding an elemental staff (or axe) and book of the dead. If exclusively using Xeric's talisman to teleport to Hosidius, which is a better teleport than book of the dead but harder to charge, Amy's saw (off-hand) would free up an inventory slot, which could slightly increase experience rates and contract completion rate on average. However, if the talisman is mounted rather than equipped, the player would have to teleport to POH every time before going to Hosidius. The Xeric's talisman teleport is closer to the southern two contracts (Barbara and Leela), while the book of the dead teleport is closer to the northern contract (Mariah), but not by much. It is possible to wear book of the dead and Xeric's together without Amy's saw, or more typically just use book of the dead (optionally with Tithe Farm minigame teleport, spirit tree teleport, skills necklace, minecart access, or Hosidius POH for Barbara's contracts). The player will forgo 20 supply crates to purchase the saw.

Other methods

Levels 15–50/59/70: Building POH furniture

Ultimate ironmen can train Construction by building and rebuilding efficient furniture (things that build a high number of planks or high experience per action) in the player-owned house (POH), similar to how most players train Construction on other types of accounts. However, without access to a bank, UIM players can either use noted planks (or logs), or chop logs themselves and visit a sawmill each trip before building furniture in the POH. For more information about recommended tree locations and teleportation methods to sawmills, see the Mahogany Homes section of this guide.

Oak furniture

Cutting oak logs and building oak furniture from oak planks is one of the best training methods for lower levels.

1000K

Players must complete Enlightened Journey and unlock the balloon route to Varrock for this method, which provides a reasonably fast transportation to the sawmill from the Taverley player-owned house. Each trip with the balloon transport system to the sawmill requires a payment of willow logs. There is a crate near the balloon where the player can store up to 100 logs, and there are willow trees conveniently nearby at Taverley lake when you run out.

Alternatively, it is possible to skip the balloon route by obtaining the ring of the elements from the Guardian of the Rift minigame rewards shop, which provides a teleport to the Earth Altar just south-west of the sawmill near the balloon.

Although this method can scale to any inventory setup, it is best to have 24 inventory spaces for planks as this allows the player to build 3 oak larders per trip, which is only possible with the rune pouch. Experience rates directly correlate with available inventory space for planks (each oak plank provides 60 experience when installed). The following table shows how the process and experience yield varies with 16, 22, or 24 free inventory spaces.

Free Inventory Spaces for Planks Furniture to Build Each Cycle Room to Build In XP per Trip
16 2 oak larder Kitchen 960
22 3 carved oak table + 1 oak dining table Dining room 1,320
24 3 oak larder Kitchen 1,440

This method goes as follows:

  1. Travel to the Varrock lumberyard and cut an inventory of oak logs. Do not cut logs in Taverley, or you will be too heavy to ride the balloon.
  2. Convert the logs into planks at the sawmill.
  3. Teleport to the Taverley player-owned house in building mode (or teleport outside and enter the portal in building mode). If using ring of the elements rather than the balloon route, any POH location will work.
  4. Build and remove oak furniture until you run out of planks.
  5. Exit the house, run south-east to the balloon, and take the route to the Varrock sawmill (or use ring of the elements to Earth Altar teleport).
  6. Repeat the process as desired.
  7. Add more willow logs to the balloon log storage as needed.

It is recommended to have the graceful outfit for weight reduction and faster run energy restoration, as this method involves a lot of running. Alternatively, the lumberjack outfit will slightly increase the Woodcutting experience gained from this training method.

Players can gain up to around 40,000 Construction experience per hour when not using tick manipulation. Tick manipulation can be used to cut the logs faster, which increases experience rates slightly. Players can fit two extra logs each trip if they drop the tick manipulation items at the trees and pick them up again upon returning. With tick manipulation, it is possible to gain up to 50,000 experience per hour. Experience rates are dependent on Woodcutting level, so expect lower rates at below level 60 Woodcutting (when chance to cut oaks with a rune axe reaches 100%).

This method costs around 4 coins per experience.

Teak and Mahogany furniture

Players can use a similar process to construct teak or mahogany furniture from associated trees, however, this is more expensive than Mahogany Homes and generally not recommended unless trying to quickly use up noted planks. Without noted planks, it is recommended to use Prifddinas trees and sawmill, or have a way to teleport from POH to teak/mahogany trees and also a sawmill teleport (for example, fairy ring AJP to Avium Savannah teaks or hardwood patch, then take quetzal from Outer Fortis to Auburnvale sawmill). See the mounted mythical cape method below for more information, which is generally the most efficient training method with teak planks.

Levels 59–70: Limestone

100K

Buying limestone bricks from Razmire Keelgan and building limestone attack stones is a relatively fast and cheap training method before players have unlocked Prifddinas. However, it is somewhat click-intensive, and no Woodcutting experience is gained from doing it which makes the method less efficient overall than the other methods.

This method requires level 59 Construction, completion of the hard tasks in the Morytania Diary, 20 free inventory spaces, having used a serum 208 dose on Razmire Keelgan, and a flamtaer bag. It is also recommended to have the graceful outfit and/or revitalisation pool or higher in the player-owned house.

Suiciding with the Flamtaer bag will cause it to break, so it is required to store any items in an Item Retrieval Service before getting your Flamtaer bag, if planning to store any items that way. Acquiring a Flamtaer bag requires playing the Shades of Mort'ton (minigame) which is a dangerous activity requiring combat, so use caution when preparing to train this way.

This method goes as follows:

  1. Left-click Razmire Keelgan to gain access to his builder's store.
  2. Buy a total of 80 limestone bricks from Razmire Keelgan using the right-click Trade-Builders-Store option, 20 bricks at a time and filling the Flamtaer bag after each purchase until it is full.
  3. Teleport to your player-owned house (In Settings->House Options, set 'Teleport Inside' and 'Default Building Mode' to on).
  4. Build and remove limestone attack stones until you have run out of limestone bricks.
  5. Teleport to Burgh de Rott using the Morytania legs and exit the gate north. While interacting with the gate, hop worlds.
  6. Run north to Mort'ton, and repeat the process.

Players can gain up to 80,000 Construction experience per hour, although players are likely to see rates of 70,000–75,000 Construction experience per hour when including mistakes. This method costs around 2.7 coins per experience.

Levels 50/70–99: Mounted mythical capes

1000K

Cutting teak trees in Avium Savannah (before 70 Construction) or Prifddinas (after 70 Construction and Song of the Elves, ideally with 75 Construction and 83 Farming for the POH spirit tree, boostable from 70 Construction and 78 Farming) to build mounted mythical capes is the fastest way to train Construction, especially when using tick manipulation. However, it is more expensive than completing adept contracts for Mahogany Homes and comparable to expert contracts, costing around 4.05 coins per experience. Without tick manipulation, this method is only recommended for players who are seeking for a more straightforward alternative to Mahogany Homes and do not mind spending some extra money.

Players must have completed Dragon Slayer II to be able to purchase and build mounted mythical capes, which requires 50 Construction (not boostable).

The plank sack increases experience rates by allowing the player to build more cape mounts per trip. If cutting teaks in Avium Savannah or other location farther away from a sawmill, the log basket is also recommended. It is generally recommended to wear the lumberjack outfit for extra Woodcutting experience or the graceful outfit for energy. The carpenter's outfit provides additional Construction experience and is in theory the best outfit to wear if the player has it, but it is obtained from Mahogany Homes, which is typically avoided when using this method. The carpenter's outfit is also not generally worth obtaining unless the player intends to train to level 99 or higher, or if the player is willing to sacrifice some experience for collection log completion. See the Mahogany Homes Rewards section of this guide for more information.

Having a total of 48 spaces for the planks is optimal. Players who wish to keep the crystal shards for later use will only have enough space for 45 planks (mounted capes are built in multiples of three planks), though this would also free up 2 inventory spaces for other items, such as the seed box for herb/tree runs or the looting bag. If using a crystal axe for this method, players will slightly profit crystal shards over time.

This method goes as follows:

  1. Obtain a mythical cape from the Myths' Guild. Only one mythical cape is needed: it is returned to the inventory upon removal of the mount.
  2. Travel to teak trees in Avium Savannah (accessed via fairy ring AJP or quetzal to Outer Fortis), or go to the teak trees in Prifddinas (via spirit tree).
  3. Cut an inventory of teak logs, and make them into planks at a sawmill. Repeat until your inventory and plank sack are full of teak planks.
    • From Avium Savannah teaks, teleport to Varrock sawmill with ring of the elements, or take the quetzal from Outer Fortis to the Auburnvale sawmill.
    • From Prifddinas teaks, walk to the nearby sawmill.
  4. Teleport to your player-owned house in building mode (in Game Settings->House Options, set 'Teleport Inside' and 'Default Building Mode' to on).
  5. Build and remove mounted mythical capes until you run out of teak planks.

Experience rates scale depending on the Woodcutting level. At level 99 Woodcutting and when wearing the Lumberjack outfit, players can gain up to 100,000 Construction and 70,000 Woodcutting experience per hour. Using the crystal axe will offer around 3% faster rates. Without tick manipulation, players can expect to gain around 78,000 Construction and 54,000 Woodcutting experience per hour.

Levels 1-99: Collecting noted planks

Although not a direct way of training, collecting noted planks offers some effective Construction experience per hour given the time saved to collect logs and create planks otherwise. Noted planks are best used for doing Mahogany Homes, as it offers the highest experience per plank.

The following are common sources of noted planks:

  • Tempoross fairly commonly rewards regular planks and oak planks.
  • Gangsters and gang bosses from the tackling organised crime activity across Kourend commonly drop noted oak, teak, and mahogany planks.
    • As the event is timed and most worlds are within seconds of each other, using a Dwarf multicannon and hopping worlds increases the number of planks that can be obtained per event (each lasting approximately five minutes). However, acquiring cannonballs takes substantial time (for example, using the Blast Furnace to buy ores and smelt bars, and making cannonballs at the Falador furnace), but provides additional Ranged and Smithing experience. A cannon is not required to use this method.
    • Downtime between gang busts can be used for other skilling, creating cannonballs, completing Mahogany Homes contracts, building furniture with looted planks, or completing hard clues dropped by gangsters.
  • Additionally, the Chambers of Xeric ancient chest offers fairly common drops of noted teak and mahogany planks.

If using this method, it is most efficient to build a large stack of noted planks before using them in Construction training. Noted planks can be stored in a looting bag.
