The ancient chest is found in the Great Olm's room in the Chambers of Xeric raid, and can be searched for rewards after defeating the Great Olm. If players leave the Chambers without looting the reward chest, any unclaimed regular loot is placed on the ground upon leaving the raid.
Depending on what the player obtains, the light shining down on the chest will vary in colour:
- A white light indicates the player has not received a unique. This will always consist of two different drops; they cannot be the same.
- A purple light indicates that the player has received a unique drop.
- A turquoise light indicates that the player has received the metamorphic dust drop.
- A green light indicates that the player has received the twisted ancestral colour kit drop.
If multiple rolls on special items are successfully rolled, then the light will alternate between the available colours.
Loot table
Players will always find a dark journal inside unless it is stored in their bank.
Unique drop table
Upon the Great Olm's death, if a unique reward item is given, it will be announced in the game chat.
For every 8,676 total points obtained, a 1% chance to obtain a unique loot is given. If one of these items is received, no common rewards are given.
This chance is capped at 65.7% (570,000 points) - any further points will be sent to roll for a second unique loot. For example, a team who possesses 855,000 points in total has a 65.7% chance to receive a unique loot, and then a 32.85% chance to obtain a second unique loot.[1] Up to six unique rewards can be obtained per raid, assuming that there are enough points to roll for them.
In groups, the player's points will also determine who is more likely to obtain the unique drop if rolled on, with higher points giving a greater chance at it.
Once the game has chosen which player will receive the unique loot, an item is chosen from the table below. The higher the weighting, the more likely a player will receive that item.

Hotfix
Seeds are no longer guaranteed drops, instead 33% chance of getting seeds instead of herbs, following the same intended ratio of seeds to herbs. |
| 25 June 2025 (Update) |
Seeds replaced herbs as a reward drop. The amount of herbs that could potentially be rewarded were cut by 20% for all except dwarf weed, which was 40%, and half of that amount would be turned into seed drops at a ratio of 1 seed for every 7 herbs. |
| 8 January 2025 (Update) |
To prevent megascale boosting abuse at Chambers of Xeric, we've changed how unique rewards are distributed. Now players who leave a raid in progress are eligible to receive unique items, but if they would do so, the reward is discarded instead. This ensures that leaving a CoX raid no longer transfers loot chances onto remaining participants. |
