Rogues' chests are located in the Rogues' Castle at approximately level 54 Wilderness. They require 84 Thieving to open. Players must use the "Search for traps" option from the right-click menu to open it successfully. There are three chests total which each take 34 game ticks (20.4 seconds) to reset.

Upon successfully unlocking a chest, the player is granted 701.7 Thieving experience. If the player has completed the medium Wilderness diary, it will provide loot including runes, noted uncut gems, ores, blighted food, and dragonstones. Completing the hard Wilderness diary will provide around 20% extra GE value in loot is therefore highly recommended.

Along with hellhounds, the chest is one of the best sources for hard clue scrolls in the game when an imbued ring of wealth is worn. However, on any death, the ring of wealth will lose its imbued status.

Successfully stealing from a chest is an elite task in the Wilderness Diary.

Transportation

Warning: The chests are located within the deep Wilderness. In addition to the threat of player-killers, the Chaos Elemental, which has a very accurate attack which ignores protection prayers and hits up to 28, may wander to the entrance of the Rogues' Castle. Always check your risk prior to entering the Wilderness and do not bring items you are unwilling to lose.

There are several options to get to the Rogues' Chests:

Strategy

The courtyard with the chests contains numerous non-aggressive level-135 rogues. Once a chest is opened, the rogues will all attack the player. The rogues are moderately accurate and have a max hit of 15, but their damage can be completely blocked by Protect from Melee. For sustainable sessions, it is highly recommended to have a Prayer level of at least 43 to use Protect from Melee.

Player-killers are extremely common at the rogue's castle, and frequently world hop looking for victims, often in the courtyard itself or the shed just east of the chests. To try to keep the valuable loot, it's recommended for players to use a non-deadly self-damaging item such as a dwarven rock cake or locator orb to continuously keep their hitpoints as low as possible. Immediately on spotting a player-killer, the player should then use an Araxyte venom sac, which deals 4 damage and will kill the player if they've kept their hitpoints below that. Otherwise, the player can also disable Protect from Melee and let the rogues kill them instead, but this is much less reliable.

While the player is unlocking the chest, which takes at least a few ticks, no other action can be initiated including self-damage. Switching protection prayers will occur once the chest is looted, but items will need to be clicked again. For this reason, it isn't always possible to force a PvM death even with a quick reaction on seeing a player-killer.

Note that if a player-killer manages to cast a spell, shoot an arrow, or attacks with melee, a self-inflicted or monster death will almost certainly count as a PvP death even if the spell, projectile, or weapon deals a zero hitsplat. Only the three items protected on death will kept.

Rewards

Rogues attacking the player upon a successful loot.

Opening the chests continuously without interruption yields at least 300,000 Thieving experience per hour. A handful of interruptions in an hour, whether from banking or player-killers, reduces the hourly experience to around 260,000 to 280,000. If the player can tolerate the risk, this activity offers the fastest Thieving experience in the game.

Without interruption and with the Hard Diary completed, it takes between 10 and 15 minutes to reach around 500,000 gold in loot plus the occasional hard scroll box. The possible reward of dragonstones makes the chest a popular method for Ironmen and players looking to make dragonstone jewellery. The Law runes given are prodigious and can be very helpful for adding locations to the Portal nexus. Nature and law runes will account for around 35% of the Grand Exchange value of the loot, followed by Uncut diamonds, coins, and Coal.
