A dwarven rock cake is a quest item used in the Freeing the Mountain Dwarf subquest of Recipe for Disaster to free Rohak's son from the Culinaromancer. During the quest, it is made by Rohak after he is given 4 Asgoldian ales followed by the ingredients: an egg, a bowl of water, a pot of flour, and a bucket of milk. Subsequent rock cakes after completion only require 100 coins.

There are two variants of the cake, the first is made by Rohak, which is hot. The player can only pick up a hot rock cake while wearing gloves or using Telekinetic Grab, attempting to do so without using either of these will deal 2 damage if the player has above 3 Hitpoints remaining (no damage hitsplat occurs if at or below 3 HP), and the cake will drop to the floor.

A hot rock cake can be cooled via any of the following methods:

• Picking it up with ice gloves or Smiths gloves (i) equipped
• Going to Ice Mountain and killing an icefiend
• Holding it in your inventory or bank for two hours

Prior to completing the subquest, extra ingredients are required for additional dwarven rock cakes. After completing the subquest, they can be purchased from Rohak for 100 coins each; the cake will serve its function as a self-damaging item without having to be cooled, but gloves or Telekinetic Grab are still required to pick up the cake.

Eating depletes 1 hitpoint when above 2 hitpoints. If at or below 2 HP, it will do nothing.

Guzzling depletes 10% of current hitpoints, rounded down, plus one. This will deplete 1 HP if currently at 2 HP, allowing to completely deplete to 1 HP. When at 1 HP, guzzling will still hit the player, but for 0 damage.

Neither eating nor guzzling are able to kill the player under normal circumstances, but it is possible to die while doing this. Neither of the two actions destroys the rock cake, meaning only one extra cake is required for use outside of Freeing the Mountain Dwarf.

The rock cake can be used to reduce Hitpoints to increase the effect of Dharok's armour or used in the Nightmare Zone alongside absorption potions, as having only 1 Hitpoint left will maximise the potions' efficiency. Enemies cannot deal damage to a player higher than their current Hitpoints. With only 1 hitpoint remaining, each incoming attack absorbed by the potion is only 1 damage, so removes only 1 absorption potion point when absorbed. The rock cake can be used to strategically reach and maintain 1 hitpoint. This method synergises extremely well with Dharok's armour effect, but can be used to great efficiency with any gear setup and any combat style.

• If a player makes two rock cakes during the quest and places a hot rock cake in their bank after saving the dwarf, the cake will automatically cool.
