The lunar altar can be built in the altar space of the achievement gallery in a player-owned house. It requires 80 Construction to build and gives 1,957 experience when built. The player must have a hammer and a saw in their inventory to build it.

Players can switch their spellbook to the Lunar spells. Players can also switch their spellbook back to the standard spellbook. Other players can use the altar, provided they have completed Lunar Diplomacy.

The lowest level at which the altar can be built is 75 Construction, using the +5 boost from a spicy stew. The crystal saw cannot be used to lower this requirement, as the achievement gallery room requires 80 Construction and is unaffected by the saw. However, the crystal saw can be used when upgrading the altar into an occult altar or if you've already built the achievement gallery.

• The book on the altar contains Morse code, which can be translated as "cosmic comic".
