Fairy ring teleport
A player using the fairy rings teleport.

The fairy ring transportation system is unlocked by members after starting the Fairytale II - Cure a Queen quest and getting permission from the Fairy Godfather. It consists of 55 teleportation rings spread across the world and provides a relatively fast means of accessing often remote sites in Gielinor, as well as providing easy access to other realms.

Players can access the fairy ring system from any fairy ring while wielding either a dramen staff or lunar staff. From there, using three-letter codes, they can teleport to most rings within the system. If the elite Lumbridge & Draynor Diary is completed, no staff of either kind is needed. Several rings, however, require players to complete quests before they can be accessed. If the selected code has no corresponding fairy ring or is a fairy ring the player is already located in, players will not be teleported anywhere, exclaiming "Wow, fairy magic sure is useful, I hardly moved at all!".

Players with level 85 in Construction can build a fairy ring in their superior garden.

Note that Fairytale I - Growing Pains must be completed to access the fairy rings. Fairytale II - Cure a Queen does not need to be completed, and players do not need any of the skill requirements.

When using the fairy rings, a travel log will pop up. This is a list of rings to which you have recently travelled. This is useful, as you can just click on the ring code in the travel log and the code will be automatically entered. Up to ten fairy ring codes can be marked as favourites for quicker code dialling to frequented rings.

The fairy ring system was seemingly created by the fairies through fairy magic, as a means of transportation between planes and across the overworld. The rings are imbued with a protective magic that prevents you from being attacked by monsters when standing in the centre of them.[1]

Players standing in the centre of fairy rings after teleporting via fairy ring are currently able to be attacked by NPCs.

Trivia

  • When attempting to use the fairy ring network without completion of the elite Lumbridge & Draynor diary, a dramen staff, or a lunar staff, players receive the message The fairy rings only work for those who wield fairy magic.
  • If the player has trapped themselves at a location only accessible by the fairy ring network, they may teleport back to Zanaris or from Zanaris to the Lumbridge Swamp without a dramen or lunar staff regardless of if they have the elite Lumbridge & Draynor diary completed.
  • When using a fairy ring, any item equipped in the off-hand slot will momentarily disappear.
  • Prior to the Diverse Dungeons update, fairy ring code DJR teleported the player to Sinclair Mansion (west).
  • Fairy rings AJS, AKQ, BIQ/DLQ, DIP, CLR, DLR and DIQ have a 1/6 chance of spawning a penguin, grey chinchompa, jackal, unattackable Abyssal Sire spawn, unattackable small ninja monkey, badger and servant, respectively, when teleporting away from those fairy rings to make it look as if they came through the teleport with you.[2]
  • There are only 64 possible combinations using 4 letters on each ring, meaning that at some point, if more rings are added, no new unique combinations will exist for future rings.
