The Arceuus Library, also known as the Grand Library of Great Kourend,[1] is a large library found in Arceuus. Created during the attack of the Wintertodt (known then as the Winter Beast) 1,360 years ago, its construction was ordered by Lord Arceuus I, who requested all citizens submit writing, texts, documents and research from all cities in order to preserve the history of Great Kourend.

Important historical documents, such as the Official Order of Construction, are stored in the Library Historical Archive, a repurposed chamber of the Tower of Magic, for further study and additional protection. Players can access the Archive by speaking to Archeio on the ground floor.

The library can quickly be reached by using the fairy code CIS.

Gaining experience

The Library is the location in which players can gain experience in either Magic or Runecraft by speaking to either Sam, Professor Gracklebone, or Villia to search bookcases for texts around the library for them. For finding and delivering the correct book, players will be given a book of arcane knowledge.

The locations of the books can be extremely narrowed down by speaking to Biblia on the top floor, who will narrow the location of the text the player is looking for down to the floor level and the section of the floor where a requested book is located.

The location of the books vary between worlds, and reset after 80–100 minutes and a game message in the chatbox will state You hear the shifting of books due to a mysterious force...or are you just hearing things?. Note that if a player is required to find the book Soul journey, it is recommended to read it, as doing so will start the Bear Your Soul miniquest.

Strategy

It is recommended to have light-weight/weight-reducing clothing such as the graceful outfit, or multiple stamina potions. If the Arceuus spellbook is unlocked, the Arceuus Library Teleport can be used to return to the first floor from the top floor or middle central room slightly faster. Another strategy is to bring an axe and some forester's rations: then when the player is out of run energy and is far away from the centre of the ground floor, to use the Ardougne Cloak 1 free teleport to Ardougne monastery, chop an oak tree to fully restore run energy (30% chance per log chopped to restore 20% run energy), then use fairy ring code CIS on the fairy ring to the east to return to the library, thus saving the return trip from the top floor of the library to the ground floor, while restoring run energy along the way.

RuneLite

The "Kourend Library" RuneLite plug-in will automatically locate and highlight the locations of all books once the first couple are found, and is very highly recommended for speeding up the activity and greatly increasing XP gains.

You can collect all of the books to be prepared for further requests. Complete all requests possible until a book is requested that you do not have, then collect that book, gathering as many other books as possible on your way.

Without Plugins

It is highly recommended that players speak to Biblia on the top floor to be told which room the requested book is located.

You may collect books other than those currently being requested to be more quickly prepared for future requests. The drop trick does not work and you cannot bank the books. After you give a book to a customer, it is recommended to return to the same location and get another copy of the book, in case it is requested again. If you choose not to do this, however, and the same book is requested before the location change, the book will still be found at the same location. Around every 80–100 minutes, all of the locations of books change.

The quickest way to gain experience is to coordinate with other players on finding books by sharing locations and collecting all books, even those you do not yet need. Players who do not want help from other players should go to a world with few players to increase the time between location resets, and take note of the locations of books. With few players online, the locations may stay the same for over an hour.

XP Per Tome

You can use the Arceuus Library Books Calculator to determine how many books are needed to reach a target level or XP. When a book is used, it grants Magic experience equal to 15x the player's Magic level, or Runecraft experience equal to 5x the player's Runecraft level.

Trivia

  • On the day of release, the experience reward for books of arcane knowledge was significantly nerfed because the sheer number of people searching for books made helping and location-calling extremely easy, and helping customers granted exceptional Runecraft experience.
  • On the day of release, mithril seeds were used to mark the locations of books, but this became less effective as crowds thinned out over time.
