Dark manuscripts were ancient pages found in the Grand Library in Arceuus. Horphis could have asked the player to find manuscripts for them, in which their location was random. Upon handing in a manuscript, a book of arcane knowledge was rewarded, as well as favour for Arceuus.
To get a hint to find the location of a manuscript, players could ask Biblia on the top floor of the library.
Players could not read the manuscript as it was too complex for the player to decipher the symbols.

Dark manuscripts were removed from the game alongside the Kourend Favour system. |
Tips
Players can gather multiple manuscripts at a time and hand them in bulk allowing for faster favour gain. This is done by returning to Biblia on the top floor after each manuscript is found, and asking for the location of any dark manuscripts again.
It seems that every time the locations of the manuscripts are reselected, 1-2 random locations are chosen for each room, and the manuscript will always appear in one or the other location.
It can be useful to note the locations for faster gathering.
