Lunar alphabet

The Lunar alphabet is an alphabet consisting of 26 letters used on Zanaris and Lunar Isle, each of which is equivelant to a letter of the Latin alphabet. It does not appear to be in common use, as most of the residents of Zanaris do not recognise it, comparing its letters to doodles or Rorschach ink-blots.^[1][2][3] Those who do recognise the alphabet are only familiar with it from its use on the rune temple sign outside the mysterious ruins leading to the Cosmic Altar.^[4][5]

During Fairytale II - Cure a Queen, Fairy Nuff writes a hidden message to the player in this alphabet on the back of her certificate after her house is ransacked by the Fairy Godfather. Players can decode it by comparing the message on the sign outside the cosmic altar, which reads "COSMIC RUNE ALTAR".

During Lunar Diplomacy, the player discovers a jinx was placed on the Lady Zay by the ship's cabin boy, causing the ship to sail in circles. The jinx was caused by the cabin boy writing five symbols of the lunar alphabet on the ship, visible only with an emerald lantern. This was taught to him by a young member of the Moon Clan who promised him control of the ship in exchange for placing the symbols.^[6][7]

The standard version of the alphabet is used on Nuff's certificate.

This variant is used on the cosmic rune temple sign.

The letters in this variant are more elaborate than the ones used in-game, and are comprised of models instead of sprites. While the models themselves do not appear anywhere in-game, they can be seen written on various objects on the Lady Zay in the form of a jinx.

• A support on the Lady Zay, with the lunar alphabet symbol for A.
• A cannon on the Lady Zay, with the lunar alphabet symbol for B.
• A crate on the Lady Zay, with the lunar alphabet symbol for B.
• A chest on the Lady Zay, with the lunar alphabet symbol for C.
• A wall chart on the Lady Zay, with the lunar alphabet's symbol for D.

• The lunar alphabet is not given a name in-game, but is referred to as such within the game's code.
• The standard versions of P, X, and Z cannot normally be seen anywhere in-game. This also applies to the large versions of B, D, F, G, H, I, J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y, and Z.
