The Cosmic Altar is a runic altar upon which cosmic runes are crafted from pure essence, providing 8 Runecraft experience per essence imbued. Level 27 Runecraft and completion of the Lost City quest is required to craft cosmic runes.

Players may create a cosmic tiara here by using either a cosmic talisman or a tiara on the altar whilst having both in their inventory, granting 40 Runecraft experience. A catalytic tiara can also be created here by using a catalytic talisman and gold tiara, granting 60 Runecraft experience.

Upon entering the Cosmic Altar, the music track Stratosphere plays.

The entrance to the altar can be found in southern Zanaris, just outside the shady grove. It can also be accessed through the Abyss.

There are two agility shortcuts that allow faster access, one requiring 46 Agility for the medium shortcut, and 66 Agility for the advanced shortcut. Players will take four damage if they fail these shortcuts.

To enter the mysterious ruins, players either have to use a cosmic talisman on the ruins, or click "Enter" on the ruins while wearing a cosmic tiara. Alternatively, a catalytic talisman or tiara can be used.

Crafting 1 essence into a cosmic rune grants 8 experience.

• An inventory of 28 pure essence grants 224 EXP.
• An inventory of 30 (small pouch) grants 240 EXP.
• An inventory of 35 (small pouch + medium pouch) grants 280 EXP.
• An inventory of 43 (small pouch + medium pouch + large pouch) grants 344 EXP.
• An inventory of 54 (small pouch + medium pouch + large pouch + giant pouch) grants 432 EXP.
• An inventory of 67 (Colossal pouch) grants 536 EXP.

From level 59 on (boostable) there are 2 cosmics created per essence, without giving any additional experience.

This is required for the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary hard task of creating 56 cosmic runes simultaneously.
