Sheep are talking animals located in Zanaris west of the wheat field. The sheep can be sheared. Unlike sheep found in Gielinor, there is a chance to fail when shearing these sheep, resulting in the message: The sheep manages to get away from you!

When spoken to, the sheep is revealed to be a poet, and suggests if the player would like to hear one of their latest creations. If agreed to, the sheep will recite one of four compositions.

Trivia

  • Despite a model existing for the light-grey sheared sheep, when the light-grey sheep is sheared ingame, it becomes a dark-grey sheared sheep.
  • The last of these four poems almost exactly replicates the first stanza of Lewis Carrol's Jabberwocky. However, there are a few differences in the way some of the words are spelled, rendering "toves" in the original for example as "toathes", and "borogroves" as "borrowgroves".
  • An additional poem by the Zanaris sheep was published in an edition of the Postbag from the Hedge, as a response to the question how its species had obtained the faculty of speech. It ends with the lines: "I'm sure you'd agree, given the choice / Eaten for food, or given a voice?"[1]
  • When a light-grey sheep provides dialogue that involves the cow, its chat head will use the grey sheep's model for its responses.
